The era of diplomacy with China is quickly coming to an end. More punitive action needs to be taken. Withdrawing a diplomatic delegation with a terrible diplomatic record will have no bearing on them, nor will they be concerned about their image given that not even their ally Russia takes them seriously.

On the other hand, withdrawing our athletes, people who have some cultural influence, will do more to harm their image worldwide.

Practically every democratic nation in the world is adopting the same policy because its a good compromise

US Olympic athletes should not be used as political pawns and banned from participation in events. It was a poor idea under Carter and a even poorer one now.

Now if the US does not want to send a political delegation to China that's one thing (who cares) but since they don't underwrite athlete's training and travel to the host country (China) is not banned to other Americans by the US they need to STFU and let the athletes do their thing.
