Original Story: Biden to press G-7 leaders to adopt a unified approach to counter China’s rising influence

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden will press G-7 leaders to take concrete steps to counter China’s rising global influence on Saturday, the second day of the annual summit.

One of these steps will be a global infrastructure initiative called “Build Back Better for the World.” The multi-billion-dollar plan, parts of which were previously announced, aims to create what one White House official described as a “higher quality” alternative to China’s Belt and Road infrastructure project.

China has been developing overland and maritime routes between East Asia and the rest of the world for nearly a decade. Critics allege the country has also sought to leverage those investments to build political goodwill and discourage criticism of its leadership and institutions.

The new G-7 plan will be funded in part with existing U.S. contributions to overseas infrastructure financing, through institutions like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

<snip>

Biden’s most challenging task on Saturday will be to convince G-7 leaders to take concrete action to address what the United States calls the “genocide and crimes against humanity” that China is committing against the predominantly Muslim Uyghurs in Xinjiang Province.

But rather than press G-7 leaders to flatly condemn China’s treatment of Uyghurs, Biden will take a more diplomatic approach. The president will argue that China’s use of forced Uyghur labor represents unfair economic competition.

Biden “will make clear to the world that we believe these practices are an affront to human dignity and an egregious example of China’s unfair economic competition,” an administration official said. “The point is to send a wake-up call that the G-7 is serious about defending human rights, and that we need to work together to eradicate forced labor from our products.”

But there is no guarantee that Biden will be able to convince the rest of his G-7 partners to take concrete action.

It would appear that contrary to what many had hoped, the tensions between the U.S. and China aren’t going to ease under Uncle Joe anytime soon. If anything it appears that things are going in the opposite direction, especially if Biden succeeds in convincing the Europeans to openly condemn China’s human rights abuses (BIG IF) and to take concrete action to curb them.

On the bright side, looks like the G-7 might FINALLY be considering some concrete steps to counter China’s “Belt and Road” initiative, although it might be a case of “too little, too late”, we’ll see I suppose.

It's great that the free world is becoming aware that China is its enemy. Trump had more to do with that than anyone. And no, it's not surprising that our Presidential imposter is trying to take the credit like he has with so many other things throughout his life. But there's no doubt that all those G7 leaders shake their heads and laugh at Biden every time he leaves the room. Our only asset is that we are the USA and we have earned respect from the world. Biden and Harris are doing everything in their power to destroy that respect. They need to be impeached.

Hopefully he can succeed.

I highly doubt Canada will be converted. As most socialist nations ensure with a massive covert police force, nepotism and lack of innovation; we are on a race to the bottom and our lazy business "leaders" and politicians see nothing but opportunity.

Liberty, capitalism and human rights has never been Canadas strong suit, we've piggybacked off of the U.S since our inception. So, becoming closer to China, at the expense of the U.S, is a natural fit for Canada. Hopefully Biden can convince other nations and prioritize rule of law and liberty.

There is a reason our allies don't trust Canada...

Where did you see that Biden is “trying to take credit” for taking China to task? I haven’t seen that. I also don’t recall Trump doing anything in response to China’s “belt and road” initiative or taking China to task over human rights abuses, which appears to be what Biden is trying to do.

All in all it looks as if Biden is just continuing Trump’s hard line policy towards China, in which case one would think the supporters of Trumps policies towards China would be giving him some credit for doing, no? Especially given that it looks as if Biden is now bringing the G-7 onboard to support a harder line which Trump wasn’t able to do.

Any action against China has to be done through international co-operation. Trumps "strategy" lacked any credibility and was designed to appease the dribblers amongst his support.

Bidens approach is wider ranging and one would hope it woud be more effective.

After all, we cant have a nation building its economy through slave labour.

Tell us the cost on Americans. Under Trump before the ChiCom Flu I was paying 98 cents for a gallon of gas. What were you paying for a liter, $6?

The problem was that the world should never have allowed a communist nation into the W.T.O. Once in, the world stated "we don't care about human rights or your system, we just want cheap labour and a market to expand into", it set the West up for this suffering.

Now it's a far tougher task to reign them in especially with the track record of big businesses in Europe who will apply pressure with their governments to look the other way. When it comes time to deal with issues of principle, they will rarely step up if there is an easy buck to be made. When the shyte hits the fan, they will cry for America (again) to try and save them.

On top of the serial bribing for olympics and World Cups, there have been concentration camps at one point in China, Russia and Europe. Go figure.

China bought "The Big Guy" lock, stock and barrel with that billion dollar investment to Hunter so they are looking forward to seeing his pathetic weakness.

Too funny for words! China has bought them all. Don't you know that?

Trump already took China to task. The left called him an idiot. Now Biden wants to do the same thing and they applaud him.

You can't fix stupid.

The partisan politics are just another reason why China is going to win. Patriotism is dead, replaced with treasonous "leaders" at all levels, while police agencies sit back and do little. I don't think Western citizens even realize how precarious their liberty is. Thanks primarily to leaders of the past, and today, the weakest leadership in Western history.

Their weakness is so abundant, that some of these European countries openly say "we don't want to criticize the CCP" Imagine that. Italy for instance, after they lost so many citizens in massive numbers, refuses to use strong language.

It's why last year when Trump demanded calling out China in a statement and the G7 refused (including some who today apparently want to, how funny), they cost themselves a great about of Goodwill and opportunity.

We are living in dangerous times when leaders care less about liberty and even the lives of their own citizens, than power, however personal and temporary and knee-bending businesses who are fooled into believing they will have access to 1.4B people market. LOL. Do they even know the rules in China?

Chinas entry into the WTO was the first domino that fell to ensure America would lose. Even Russia laughed as they warned America, but, the Usual Suspects thought they were smarter than the CCP.

None of us are laughing now.

"One would hope it would be more effective". Unless America leads loudly, strongly and through principle, the rest of the world sits silent.

Anyone notice how quickly the communists stopped their daily fly-bys of Taiwan and became less belligerent AFTER the lab leak theory started being promoted by the MSM, and the threat of boycotting the olympics was being whispered?

Also, Biden is wisely meeting with Putin. I say wisely as Trump had the understanding that rather than taking the age-old failed intel direction of isolating Russia (much of it driven by poor, self serving intel analysts in Europe who convinced USA that Russia was the bigger threat), Trump believed it was smart to discuss with Russia those few mutual interests. Which basically begin and end with China. That worries China as they understand how Russia can counter Chinas influence if they become more suspicious of China.

The CCP have the same goals today as yesterday, they are just going to be a little more quiet about it because they desperately fear the U.S pushing investigations and isolating them.

America has to keep at it and not be fooled this time. China still has the goal of conquering Taiwan and destroying America. You listen to their words "no longer is the worlds fate decided by a few countries". China is trying to usurp the Western powers so that they can have the greatest level of influence. They know this only happened if a weak America is on the world stage.

Now is the time for the U.S to flex their muscles, yes, even in the face of their allies. In fact, especially in their faces. They need to believe America is going to fight and win to be #1.

You might want to seal your border and promote patriotism. That would be a good start.

On the bright side, looks like the G-7 might FINALLY be considering some concrete steps to counter China’s “Belt and Road” initiative, although it might be a case of “too little, too late”, we’ll see I suppose.

LOL! Red Joe couldn't even find the right cafeteria until Nurse Jill took him by the hand and led him to it.

None of these politician clowns would support Trump pushing back on China, now they are unified?? When will they punish China for unleashing the Covid bioweapon on the world killing millions? My guess is never in a million years.

Trump already took China to task. The left called him an idiot. Now Biden wants to do the same thing and they applaud him.

You can't fix stupid.
This is nothing but political theatre for the masses. Fake faux rage by the very politicians who have sold out to China it's laughable.
