More than 1,360 of the children detained in border facilities were jailed longer than the maximum 72 hours permitted by law despite being referred for placement in shelters by Homeland Security, according to one of the documents, dated Monday. One hundred sixty-nine of the children are younger than 13.

WASHINGTON — Thousands of migrant children are backed up in United States detention facilities along the border with Mexico, part of a surge of immigration from Central Americans fleeing poverty and violence that could overwhelm President Biden’s attempt to create a more humane approach to those seeking entry into the country.

The number of migrant children in custody along the border has tripled in the past two weeks to more than 3,250, according to federal immigration agency documents obtained by The New York Times, and many of them are being held in jail-like facilities for longer than the three days allowed by law.

The problem for the administration is both the number of children crossing the border and what to do with them once they are in custody. Under the law, the children are supposed to be moved to shelters run by the Health and Human Services Department, but because of the pandemic the shelters until last week were limiting how many children they could accommodate.

The growing number of unaccompanied children is just one element of an escalating problem at the border. Border agents encountered a migrant at the border about 78,000 times in January — more than double the rate at the same time a year ago and higher than in any January in a decade.

Not quite a valid comparison. Biden is not copying Trump, in fact it's the opposite. The reason the "shelters" are seeing larger numbers is a. and increase in kids and b. the kids are quaranteened for 10 days before being moved to shelters elsewhere and eventually placed with relatives or in foster care.

Trump was trying to illegally disobey the Flores Consent Decree to be mean to children to dissuade parents. As in punish a child for the parent's sin, which is something America chose to not do back in the 18th fucking Century.

Imo there is a valid question about whether Biden is encouraging illegal child immigration. We used to just rapidly deport entire families when we caught them near the border. But Biden is letting kids in.

And there's an obvious irony that by attempting to be more humane that Trump, Biden's policy is actually putting kids in short term holds. And we have not yet seen a return to the migrant larger actions in just slipping kids over the border unaccompanied. But my guess it that will happen. And that's why I think DACA citizenship is a horrible idea.

The difference here is that Beijing's bitch's policies are CAUSING the underage migrant surge at the border. His catch and release policies are responsible for every misery those poor children suffer while being used as pawns. He's responsible for the hunger and fear. He's responsible for the rapes and abuse. He's responsible every time he lets a child stay with the trafficker who brought them across the border. He's responsible for all of it and I hope that he, as well as those of you that support these policies, live the nightmares of those children every night in your dreams.
