The KKK group was not originally Democrats. The KKK was initially founded by returning Confederate soldiers and had nothing to do with persecuting blacks. It was meant to protect the South from northern carpetbaggers. It wasn't until the days of the Jim Crow Laws that the KKK was taken over by the old Southern Democrats.

Racism is neither Democrat nor Republican. Both parties have long racist histories. Only Republicans try to deny their racist past and pretend racism doesn't exist. Democrats repudiated racism in the 1960's. Republicans never have, and continue to this day to promote authoritarian, white supremacist policies.

Back in the 1980's, Ronald Reagan vetoed a bill which would condemn and sanction the white ruled Apartheid regime in South Africa. Republicans couldn't condemn Aparheid, because they have been working since Reagan to ensure that the USA remains segregated.

There are 5525 miles of undefended border between Canada and the United States, and while Maine makes up a big chunk of it that border stretches from Maine to Washington State. 85% of the Canadian population lives within 100 miles of the US border.

I don't know what white supremacists want in Canada, but our Conservative Party is going down the same racist xenophobic, anti-muslim, line of policy as the US. I think it's because we're not as segregated here that this kind of thinking is losing its grip. I'm not going to pretend the country wasn't highly racist when I was growing up, but since we all live together and work together, we get to know one another. I grew up with kids of different races and so did my kids.

I see a lot more racism out here - especially against Natives. There are "issues" with development on disputed lands. Currently, they're trying to build a new subdivision on land claimed by one of the local tribes, and the county mayor has pre-purchased a new house in this subdivision. Can you scream "conflict of interest" at the top of your lungs.

Natives pay no taxes, but get lots of government money. You can buy cigarettes on the Rez for $25 a carton, versus $120 a carton off the Rez. So when the Natives block the local roads to protest the theft of their land, disrupting good paying construction jobs, and the businesses of tax paying Canadians, the I think the posts of the entitled white people who pay taxes, pretty much write themselves.

For example the NRA are hot after us to open up gun ownership so they can sell us guns. Alberta is the only Province they've gotten any traction in, but Alberta is more like a US state than a Canadian province.

The Hell's Angels, and the Bloods and the Crips all have chapters in Canada. The Hell's Angels are HUGE in Quebec and were running death squads and drugs war there for years. The Hell's Angels had a club house on the corner of Logan and Eastern in downtown Toronto, until police raided it shortly after I left Toronto. Half of the illegal guns in Canada, come from the USA, across that longest undefended border in the world.
