Benedict Arnold anti-Catholic, played a role in his traitorous behavior.

There is a monument in Saratoga NY depicting only a boot. It is a tribute to General Arnold who led the Americans in a victory over the British and was wounded in the leg during the battle.

There is a legend that when Arnold went to work for the British he asked a captured Virginian what the American army would do to him if he was captured. The Virginian replied that they would probably cut his leg off and hang the rest of him.

Given Arnold's personal immorality, I seriously doubt that he was very religious. Of course, even atheists can be anti-Catholic. His main motive for betraying the American case was clearly money.
