What did King Philippe say?
This is the first time a Belgian monarch has formally expressed remorse for what happened during the country's colonial rule. The remarks, however, fell short of an outright apology.

In a letter sent to President Tshisekedi and published in Belgian media, King Philippe praises the "privileged partnership" between the two nations now.

But he says there have been "painful episodes" in their history, including during the reign of King Leopold II - who he does not directly name - and in the 20th Century.

Either do it or don't.

but.........................did they take a knee??????

Thats very poor. The facts arent in dispute, why prevaricate like that ?

Yes, according to what I have read, the Belgians were very stern with the people whom they ruled in the Congo.

I am glad that His Majesty has apologized, even though apologies are of cold comfort to the victims.

I also think that it is outrageous how badly the Congo has been ruled since independence. Almost all of the former African colonies have experienced horrific violence, corruption, and disorganization since "independence." Who can forget the genocide in Rwanda or the corruption in Zimbabwe, etc.?

Colonization in sub=Sahara was truly the best of times and the worst of times. At least they had organized administration.

Good.

Now will the United Kingdom apologize to America for the tyrannical abuses of Tyrant George III during their colonial rule here?

Sounds like a good ruler isn't proud of bad things done by his predecessors and wants to establish trust in his lifetime with people of the same foreign country so that both will prosper. At least he put the ball in their court.

....Africans and Native Americans did the same thing, on a smaller scale..will they apologize???
