Banker William Bryan Jennings Faces 11 Years If Convicted Of Stabbing Mohamed Helmy Ammar

At the very moment William Bryan Jennings should have been climbing into bed at his sumptuous Connecticut mansion, the high-ranking executive at Morgan Stanley was sprinting through back roads a mile away. He was exhausted, scared and - detectives would later allege - had just stabbed a taxi driver in a dispute over a fare.

The day, December 21, 2011, had started out normally as he left the kind of home - sweeping curved staircase, perfectly plumped chintz pillows, backyard swimming pool and a Ferrari in the garage - that makes many New Yorkers deeply jealous, and headed to the steel-and-glass tower in midtown Manhattan where he directed the firm's bond business.

In the afternoon, he hosted a charity auction in the city to benefit sick children. That night, he attended a Morgan Stanley holiday party at the swanky rooftop bar at Ink48 Hotel. When he left the party, he looked for the black town car that was supposed to take him to his $2.7 million mansion in the wealthy enclave of Darien. He couldn't find the car, so he hailed a yellow cab.

In less than two hours, what allegedly began as a tussle over a cab fare, which the taxi driver said was $204, led to a struggle that could cost Jennings his career.

Charges Dropped Against Former Morgan Stanley Banker - Metropolis - WSJ

The criminal case against a former Morgan Stanley executive charged with stabbing a cab driver following a fare dispute was dropped Monday after a Connecticut state’s attorney revealed that the driver waited to turn the knife over to police.

The driver, Mohamed Ammar, “had the knife the whole time,” said supervisory assistant state’s attorney Steven Weiss. “He had ample opportunity to tell police and he didn’t do that.”

The defendant, William Bryan Jennings, was charged with assault and hate crimes for attacking Ammar last December after the driver took Jennings from Manhattan to Jennings’ home in Darien, Conn.

Ammar claimed Jennings refused to pay the fare and that he drove off with Jennings still in his cab to look for police.

In an ensuing scuffle, Ammar was stabbed in the hand with a pen knife. Ammar, who is from Egypt, also reported that Jennings told him to “go back” to his country.

Jennings was at the time Morgan Stanley’s co-head of U.S. bond underwriting. He is no longer at the company.

How does a case from last December being dropped in October equal "charges dropped right away"? :dunno:

Ammar told police that after Jennings took out the pen knife, he began stabbing towards Ammar's neck and cut the taxi driver's hand, which later required six stitches. According to Ammar, Jennings cursed at him and then shouted "I'm going to kill you. You should go back to your country!"

This is just another incidence of the victim screwing up their own case so hopelessly that there is no choice BUT to drop the charges.

He tried to call the police to settle it. You don't go in a cab and expect not to pay the price.

Why did the cabbie move the knife? Why did he touch it? Why did he put his fingerprints on the knife? Did he think that there would be some kind of prosecution on his word alone?

Why are you such a pompous nazi Muslim hating motherfucker? He moved the knife so he didn't get murdered you asswipe.

Katzndogs jumps on this like a nazi shithead and tries to defend it because its a Muslim cab driver. If it was a liberal trying to stab a Rightwinger he would bring out all his conspiracy theories.

Pay attention. Jennings dropped the knife and it fell down under the seat. The cab was searched and it was missed. The cab driver found it some days later, removed it and didn't tell the police. That's what happened. When he found the knife he was in absolutely no danger of being murdered. Read the article, it tells you right there. The cab driver found the knife later. In fact, the cab driver said that the reason he didn't tell the police was because he moved it and the knife now had his fingerprints.

It isn't the first time victims have screwed up a slam dunk case and as stupid as people are, it won't be the first.

Darien detectives would later discredit Jennings' claim, saying it would have been impossible for Ammar to grab the knife from Jennings through the narrow cab partition.

Ammar told police that after Jennings took out the pen knife, he began stabbing towards Ammar's neck and cut the taxi driver's hand, which later required six stitches. According to Ammar, Jennings cursed at him and then shouted "I'm going to kill you. You should go back to your country!"

That doesn't change the fact that the knife was somehow dropped. We know it was dropped because it was found where it was dropped.

The cabbie is most likely telling the truth. Jennings could not prove up his allegations that Ammar tried to grab the knife. Then Ammar ruined the whole case by moving the evidence and putting his fingerprints on the knife. In every criminal case, there is what happened and what you can prove happened. Verdicts are decided on what is proved. The statement "I'm going to kill you. You should go back to your country" cannot be proven. Jennings could just as easily say that Ammar said "We're taking over and we will kill all the infidels". Both are unsupported statements.

:lmao: of course you would.

Neither statement could be proved and both would be excluded.

Face it, there was a good case and the victim once again screwed it up beyond salvation. It wasn't the first time and it won't be the last.

The guy tried to stab him and runaway. He threw the knife

If he threw the knife and it landed under the seat, it should have stayed there so that when the police come to collect the evidence they can photograph it where it was found. When the knife was fingerprinted, it would have only Jennings' fingerprints. Now it's just spoiled evidence. It can't be used against Jennings, even if every word that came out of the cabbie's mouth is the truth of the Gospel.

Are you saying Jennings would runaway with the knife? He's making absurd claims. The evidence doesn't support his claim. Why didn't he just pay the money due?
