That is how the above list was created. The list shows the average unemployment rate during each Presidents time in office. The data is obtained from the Bureau of Labor Statistics monthly unemployment figures that have been published for each month starting in January 1948 through September 2012.

9%?

The average Unemployment rate to date while Obama has been in office is 9.06%. This average is obtained from the 45 months of unemployment data while the President has been in office. The current monthly unemployment rate is 7.8%. But the AVERAGE unemployment rate over the past 45 months while the President has been in office is 9.06%. The average unemployment rate of each Presidency is what is being compared, not just a single month out of the dozens of months that each President was in office for.

OH WAIT!!!
THE US economy didn't take a $5 trillion hit due to dot.com bust!
Also THERE NEVER WAS A $2 trillion business losses due to 9/11!
AND NO hurricanes happened that cost $1 trillion in destroyed business,et..

NONE of that occurred RIGHT???

Is there a point to these numbers or is this just a fun waste of time?

This can be done with any time series data, but frankly there are some others such as alcohol consumption (which president drove the most people to drink? Have we properly thanked him?) or VD rates that are more interesting.

If someone thinks there is a real causal connection, then the data series given miss the real point.

Well Presidents make decisions like Obama has to push EPA agenda that has FOR A FACT cost at least 1,200 jobs.
"Patriot Coal is the first U.S. coal company to file for bankruptcy.. It has 12 active mining complexes in Appalachia and the Illinois Basin with about 1.9 billion tons of proven and probable coal reserves. According to the Energy Information Administration, coal’s share of the electric generation market fell to 36 percent in the first quarter of this year from 45 percent a year earlier. Further, the Energy Information Administration noted that for the first time since it began collecting data, generation from natural gas-fired plants and coal-fired plants were about equal in April 2012, with each fuel providing 32 percent of total generation.
Institute for Energy Research | Obama Energy Policies Are Working: Patriot Coal Goes Bankrupt

Lawmakers today issued a new warning that an aggressive antismog plan being pushed by the EPA could cost the nation $1 trillion,
kill another 7.3 million jobs, or 4.3 percent of the workforce in 2020.
New Fears EPA Smog Rule Will Cost 7.3 Million Jobs - US News and World Report

So these "And even the Pennsylvania Chamber of Commerce has said this will cost about 330,000 jobs in Pennsylvania. I think that the — that the focus around the country is on jobs and the economy, and this administration ought to take this 9.2 percent unemployment a lot more seriously than they are taking it right now."

And of course we've seen the FIRST President who has clearly STATED:

Obama has said: "I happen to be a proponent of a single payer universal health care program."Obama's words exactly!!
which means:

"I prefer to destroy the 1,300 health insurance companies that pay $100 billion a YEAR in Federal/State/Local taxes/social security/Medicare/workman's compensation/ unemployment insurance AND local property taxes on their facilities!
I prefer to put out of work the 400,000 people that work in the health insurance companies!"
IS it ANY CLEARER that IF Obama wants a single payer that means 1,300 companies and 400,000 jobs GONE!

I believe that it was just over 8% for obama and NOT 9%

regardless

cons: so what, some unemployment is GOOD for the economy, get a job!

I believe that it was just over 8% for obama and NOT 9%

Well, if you think I did the math wrong, here are the monthly unemployment rates while Obama was in office: All 45 months. Add them together and divded by 45 and you get 9.06%.

2009
January 7.8%
February 8.3%
March 8.7%
April 8.9%
May 9.4%
June 9.5%
July 9.5%
August 9.6%
September 9.8%
October 10.0%
November 9.9%
December 9.9%

2010
January 9.7%
February 9.8%
March 9.8%
April 9.9%
May 9.6%
June 9.4%
July 9.5%
August 9.6%
September 9.5%
October 9.5%
November 9.8%
December 9.4%

2011
January 9.1%
February 9.0%
March 8.9%
April 9.0%
May 9.0%
June 9.1%
July 9.1%
August 9.1%
September 9.0%
October 8.9%
November 8.7%
December 8.5%

2012
January 8.3%
February 8.3%
March 8.2%
April 8.1%
May 8.2%
June 8.2%
July 8.3%
August 8.1%
September 7.8%

Add them up you get 407.7. Divide by 45, you get 9.06%! Up to this point, the average unemployment rate under Obama has been 9.06%! Also, remember that Ford, Carter and Bush Sr. lost their jobs largely because of the economy.
