Australia actually advertised for people to come forward who "witnessed" such things.

Think about that.

'Unarmed' Taliban blew up unarmed Aussie troops in their barracks.
Any Taliban sympathisers who killed unarmed Aussie soldiers probably got medals, not locked in prison for the rest of their lives.

With what is known now, ANZUS Alliance now seemingly wrecked, no way Australia should've gotten involved in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq...and certainly not in Iran.
Ben was awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery, now he's on trial for his life.
Moral of this, if he hadn't been sent by politicians to fight and possibly die in Afghanistan he wouldn't now be in this situation.

It's ANZAC Day in Australia on 25th April.
It would be extremely helpful to the morale of the West downunder if US President Trump were to make an unambiguous, definitive statement that the ANZUS Alliance is still rock-solid.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton did so during her visit to NZ and Australia in 2010.

President Obama addressed the Australian federal parliament in capital city Canberra...said that ANZUS Alliance was "unbreakable".

"It will be alleged that the victims were not taking part in hostilities at the time of their alleged murder in Afghanistan. It will be alleged the victims were detained, unarmed and were under the control of ADF members when they were killed," Barrett told reporters, referring to the Australian Defense Force.

"It will be alleged the victims were shot by the accused or shot by subordinate members of the ADF in the presence of and acting on the orders of the accused," Barrett added.

A civil court has already found similar allegations against Roberts-Smith credible in a defamation suit he brought after several newspapers published articles in 2018 accusing him of a range of war crimes. In 2023, a federal judge rejected Roberts-Smith's claims and ruled that he likely killed four noncombatants unlawfully in 2009 and 2012.

I'M SURE DEMENTIA DON WILL BE CALLING FOR HIS PARDON SOON

The charges follow a military report released in 2020 that found evidence that elite Australian SAS and commando regiment troops unlawfully killed 39 Afghan prisoners, farmers and other noncombatants.

There's a foolproof way for Aussie men to make sure this never happens to them.
That they never find themselves on the ground in a war, hyped up to the max, their minds altered from normal thinking by what they've seen and had to do to try to return home.
That way is to never, ever, ever voluntarily join the military in any form...and ensure the govt can never again have a draft and force them into the military and be sent to war.
Ensure Australia gets nuclear weapons and threatens to use them if attacked.
No need for cannon-fodder troops.
Ireland is "neutral" ...no Irish men on trial for war crimes.
It's the way to go...ballistic missiles and nukes...not troops.

Hugh Poate, father of Robert Poate questions why war hero Ben Roberts-Smith behind bars

Former SAS soldiers warn the prolonged war crimes investigation into Ben Roberts-Smith threatens to create life or death hesitation for troops in combat situations.

The father of an Australian soldier killed in Afghanistan has questioned why a dedicated team of investigators has spent six years building a case against Victoria Cross recipient Ben Roberts-Smith while his son’s killer remains free.
It comes as former SAS soldiers warn the Office of the Special Investigator’s (OSI) prolonged investigation into alleged war crimes is causing mental health issues to military families and creating life or death issues for soldiers in combat.

Hugh Poate’s son Robert was one of three Australians killed in Afghanistan by rogue Afghan soldier Hekmatullah while they were playing cards at a forward operating base near Tarin Kowt in 2012.

He was eventually captured but released after the Taliban recaptured Kabul.

One of the five war crimes – murder that Roberts-Smith is alleged to have carried out was the shooting of a shepherd on the day he was pursuing Hekmatullah for killing the three Diggers.

“It shows the scales of justice are totally unbalanced,” Mr Poate said.

“They’ve spent ten years and hundreds of millions, determined to find enough evidence to arrest Ben for allegedly murdering three Afghans, but successive governments have taken no action at all to capture Hekmatullah and those who proudly confessed in the Afghan Supreme Court to murdering three Australian soldiers. My son was one of them.”

Roberts-Smith’s carefully orchestrated arrest in front of select media as he flew into Sydney after the Easter holidays with his partner and twin teenage daughters has dismayed many in the SAS veteran community who see it as the latest in a prolonged campaign of harassment.

“These investigations are like the Salem Witch Trials."

And he we all thought awards and honors shielded from the repercussions of their actions.

A Cowboy taking 'THE LAW" into their own hands use to called a VIGILANTE

Obviously, Roberts-Smith was made a scapegoat. These unlawful killings were committed by other low-ranking Aussie soldiers but the blame was placed solely on him to represent the entire platoon due to the lack of physical evidence.

Throwdowns
The report found evidence of the practice of "throwdowns", where Australian troops would carry weapons and equipment not issued by the ADF for the purposes of planting on civilians killed in combat.[15][11]: 29 The weapons were then used in photographic and other evidence to give the illusion that the civilians were legitimate combatants.[11]: 29 The report suspected that throwdowns started for the "less egregious though still dishonest" purpose of avoiding surveillance when legitimate combatants were later found to not be armed, but later evolved into the concealment of intentional unlawful murders.[11]: 29

Blooding
The inquiry found that junior soldiers were often required by their superiors to murder prisoners to get their first kill, a practice known as "blooding".[16][6] Brereton described the practice as such: "Typically, the patrol commander would take a person under control and the junior member [...] would then be directed to kill the person under control".[17][11]: nett Throwdowns were then placed and a cover story created to conceal the practice.[8] The killing of passive prisoners of war is a war crime.[18][19][20]

The OSI has launched 53 investigations, 39 of which have been finalised. It has charged only one other person so far, former SAS soldier Oliver Schulz.

Ross Barnett, director of investigations at OSI, on Tuesday said they were confronting "challenging circumstances" – which include limited preserved physical evidence and no cross-border policing cooperation.

This Taliban?
BRS'(Ben) lawyers are in court today, applying for bail, while he is appearing via video link from prison.
His lawyers did not apply for bail when he was first arrested 10 days ago.
He's pleading not guilty to all charges.

BRS got bail.

I have the book 'Standard Operating Procedure"...all about Abu Ghraib during the Iraq war.
Where poor Lynndie England and the other grunts were seemingly nailed to the cross of injustice as "scapegoats".

Seeing the way BRS was arrested, and what's been revealed in the Brereton Report posted in this thread earlier by ThirdTerm, some people might get the idea that he could be in line for similar "nails and cross" injustice.
