Senate Democrats Vote to Allow Asian Racial Discrimination in Higher Education
WENDELL HUSEBO 22 Apr 2021

Senate Democrats have voted down an amendment to forbid Asian racial discrimination in higher education by a vote of 49-48.

The amendment, proposed by Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and John Kennedy (R-LA), did not meet the needed 60 vote yea threshold to pass.

The amendment states:

Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no institution of higher education (as defined in section 102 of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 1002)) may receive any Federal funding if the institution has a policy in place or engages in a practice that discriminates against Asian Americans in recruitment, applicant review, or admissions.

Kennedy said of the amendment’s failure, “In an unbelievably cynical move, Senate Democrats blocked efforts to stop discrimination against Asian Americans in higher education, where racial bias has become all too common.”

“This amendment would bar funds from institutions that discriminate against Asian American students,” Kennedy continued.

“Despite their calls to end racism, it is clear Democrats are only paying lip service to fighting discrimination against Asian Americans and will allow targeted discrimination against them to continue at America’s universities and colleges,” the Louisiana senator concluded.

Remember, kids, when black people assault Asians, it's white people's fault.

never happened.

Oh it happened and it happened for the reason Cruz lamented about in his comments. This was a backdoor effort by the GOP to end preferences for blacks in the minority diversification programs. He specifically said, " "It targets the ongoing discrimination that is being directed against Asian Americans by colleges and universities across the country, including preeminent institutions such as Yale and Harvard, which are denying admission to qualified Asian American applicants in favor of underrepresented minority groups," he said. Democrats defeat GOP effort to add college admissions discrimination to Asian hate crimes bill

Well since facts don't matter to you, anything you post henceforth will not matter to me.

It's not really about asian americans though. Personally, I'm against any preference in public college admissions unless its based on race neutral socio-econ reasons.

Private schools are already tilted to legacy and those who can buy their way in. And, imo, it's not our biz, unless they do something like banning women, jews, blacks or muslims.

But banning whites is okay? How about Hispanics?

30% of all college admissions are reserved for mostly white legacy admissions the children of alumni. Unless this advantage for white students is removed, it is absolutely necessary to ensure quotas on all other races to ensure that anyone has a shot.

The only ticket out of poverty and into the middle class is via education. Republicans have been hobbling the education system in poor and low income areas for generations.

Affirmative action in the 60s and 70s built the black middle class. So of course Republicans want to eliminate it.

They’ve spent the last 40 years destroying the public school system to ensure that the children of the poor cannot possibly compete for scholarships or enrolment in the Ivy League.

The United States of America is one of two countries in the first world that spends less money to educate the children of the poor than it does to educate the children of the middle class. Turkey is the other one.

File this under how Republicans have turned the USA into a second-tier nation.

All your typical whining but you give no facts.
