Actually that’s not true at all. Your lungs never fully recover once you’re put on a ventilator. It causes massive scar tissue in your lungs. Having said that, yes, of course we need ventilators to save lives. Here in NJ we have a high percentage of ICU patients on ventilators.

I know how they work. People are sedated because it’s uncomfortable. Their lungs aren’t paralyzed (usually), this isn’t a polio epidemic. Their lungs are stiff, inflamed and can’t absorb oxygen easily. They’re necessary when the virus causes severe inflammation called ARDS.

They are not used in every COVID situation. The media would have you believe so. If you know how they work, you know they are end of life. They are not commonly used.

As I have said in other threads, my son is a Respiratory Specialist, my daughter is an RT and her husband is a Paramedic. All three are directly providing care to CV patients. Particularly my daughter, who has pod responsibility of adult ICU. Her hospital is using CPAPs instead of vents for several patients. They do not have enough vents. Now imagine o yourself how fucking difficult it is to decide who gets one and who doesn't. Knowing full well the one who doesn't may die or suffer permanent damage because if it.

I'm an old man so if a kid needed one and they had some super good drugs (for me) the kid could have mine. The real question is would I actually be doing a kid a favor in these times ?

It is called a living will in my state, and i have had one in place for years. One can define the "extraordinary" measures you want or don't want.
