It has often been observed that one of President Trump’s biggest allies in the impeachment battle is Fox News — that if Richard Nixon had enjoyed the benefit of such a powerful purveyor of propaganda, he wouldn’t have been driven from office.

You could not ask for a clearer indication of this than the interview that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell just gave to Sean Hannity about Trump’s coming trial.

The interview showcases how Trump’s propagandists have succeeded in creating a universe that is as hermetically sealed off from this scandal’s widely and firmly established set of facts as one half of a divided cell is from the other.

In this universe, it’s simultaneously the case that everything Trump said on his corrupt call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was absolutely fine and that the key elements of Trump’s pressure on Zelensky simply never happened.

And in this universe, it’s not just fully understood that Trump’s acquittal is assured in advance and that the trial will be gamed to Trump’s maximum benefit. It’s also understood that this is how it should be. Indeed, the interview appears designed to reassure audiences of all this.

That was plainly evident in McConnell’s quotes about how this process will unfold. As McConnell said:

"Everything I do during this, I’m coordinating with the White House counsel. There will be no difference between the president’s position and our position as to how to handle this.
McConnell also said:

We’ll be working through this process ... in total coordination with the White House counsel’s office and the people representing the president in the well of the Senate."

Many have sharply criticized McConnell for telegraphing that the trial will be gamed in advance to assure Trump’s acquittal and to make it as politically painless as possible.

That’s true, but it’s worse than this. Note that Hannity treated this not just as utterly unremarkable, but as how things ought to be.

There were a lot of accusations made by Repubs that the House impeachment inquiry was a sham. It wasn't. Repubs could attend closed door depositions, ask questions, the transcripts were released to the public, an invitation was extended to Trump to have counsel present at the Judiciary Committee hearings, Repubs were able to call witnesses with pertinent info to offer on the matter at hand, etc.

Mitch McTreason on the other hand is being quite transparent about allowing the WH to orchestrate the Senate "trial." Which is tantamount to allowing an accused party to control how a court proceeds in their prosecution. Is McTurtle so cynical as to think rank and file Repubs will not have a problem with him making a mockery of the Senate proceeding? Yes! And well he should be since it isn't only Senate Repubs who are in the tank for Individual 1...........the whole party is!!!!!!!!!!!!

No one gave a fuck about Don's lying and corruption until he went after a card carrying member of the establishment aristocracy.

OMG a 3rd thread. Berg, really? I have embarrassed you in two threads so now you start a third. LMAO.

Are you Jewish?

What's this?....Republicans being spinless, mealy-mouthed, double-dealing, dweebs, who will be wind socks and just go along to get along?

And it's totally great when they "compromise" with (i.e. capitulate to) democrats, but when they bow to people in their own party it's framed as the most scurrilous scandal of all time?

What's the problem?
You obviously don't know how this works.
The democrat house managers will present their case for each charge.
McConnell will then allow the President's legal team to present a defense if they want. They don't have to.

What McConnell is referring to is whether additional witnesses will be called by members of the Senate. He is leaving that up to the WH defense.

Again, what's the problem?

There won't be a trial in the Senate A roll call vote of Not Guilty is all that is going to happen.

How do you answer a totally political sham, with another totally political sham. You commies set the rules, so don't blame the players. LMAO

.
What sham?

You're nothing but a fucking liar. shitt blocked witnesses form answering republican questions and never allowed republicans to call witnesses. There were no hearings in the judiciary, the 4 lawyers they had were not fact witnesses. Both shitt and noballs violated house rules by refusing a minority hearing day. All votes in both sham hearings were along party lines. The only bipartisan vote to date was to not move ahead. And there will be two more bipartisan votes, the first will be not to advance the articles to the senate, and a vote to acquit in the senate. Yeah, it's a totally political sham intended to do nothing but try effect the 2020 election. It will backfire on you commies.

But the major networks have been coordinating with Democrats for years.

So... no I have no problem with that at all.

Ironically, I have never watched Fox News. My opinion that Trump has done nothing worth impeachment, came from just examining the evidence for myself. I read the phone transcript. I read the statements by the 'witnesses'. There is nothing there worth impeachment. If Fox News had never existed, there wouldn't be anything there worth impeachment.

Trump is paying for Nixon's mistake. Dems got away with their coup in 1974 and now they think they can do it again. Nixon didn't do anything that was impeachable and neither did Trump.

Nixon would not have been driven from office if it were not for the media arm of the liberals, propagandists all...fox is the necessary equalizer.
