In the ex ottoman bar/kafana culture gypsy singers are seen as prostitutes.
generally gypsy women are either seen as filthy and ugly and too disgusting or if they happen to be attractive as cheap whores for casual entertainment

I know it from the ottoman empire because they have kafana culture but similar exists maybe in other parts of the world too

Its portrayed in folk culture like this song

'doci cica na livade da vidis sta ciganke rade'
'plati mi cica pa cu ti pokasti'

'come uncle to the valley to see what gypsy girls can do'
'pay me uncle and i will show you'

We wondered why you liked so much to dress as a woman and be seen as a singer despite you not being able to sing three notes in tune .

Now we know how you derive an income --- as we say .
