What do you think of that? Is smuggling OK? Perhaps it's like missing emails and private servers. It's only OK if you are a right winger or a Republican.

Hobby Lobby fined $3 million for artifacts smuggled from Iraq

Hobby Lobby proceeded with the sale. Starting in late 2010, a United Arab Emirates-based dealer sent 10 packages to three different Hobby Lobby addresses in Oklahoma City, with shipping labels reading “ceramic tiles” or “clay tiles (sample),” according to the complaint. No formal entries were made for the shipments. Prosecutors said the use of multiple addresses was “consistent with methods used by cultural property smugglers to avoid scrutiny by Customs.”

Anti Gay, anti woman's rights Hobby Lobby fined millions for "smuggling"....What do you think of that? Is smuggling OK?
  • I think that Hobby Lobby opposing gay and/or women's rights has nothing to do with the fact that they smuggled artifacts. One'd need massive amounts of willing suspension of disbelief to accept that, somehow, smuggling furthers any aims they may have re: either identity group's liberties.
  • Is smuggling okay? No.

Did Clinton help Russia obtain uranium for donations? Nope

'...Trump wrongly said that Hillary Clinton “gave” Russia 20 percent of the uranium in the United States. Clinton was one of nine votes approving the deal. She alone couldn’t have stopped the deal, which involved 20 percent of U.S. production capacity, not stocks, and the uranium can’t go to Russia without export licenses...'

This was much easier 100 years ago. Wherever your army went, they had 100 % ownership of everything automatically. This makes smuggling unnecessary. All Europe does it this way. Why can't the US?

I am shocked that the President of Hobby Lobby is not being criminally prosecuted for this.

He personally knew about these shipments- and the shipments were clearly sent with the intention of evading U.S. Customs controls.

Hobby Lobby got off easy.

If his name was Clinton, the Right would be screaming conspiracy.

It has everything to do with it. They claim to be the Moral Christian Company. Then they illegally smuggle. I know, I know. Republicans can do stuff like that and get away with it. But they really aren't supposed to.

Well, at least now we know what point you were trying to convey....I had no idea that your rhetorical purpose was to highlight the incongruity between Hobby Lobby's presumably averred morality and their deeds. Nowhere in your OP do you mention that Hobby Lobby professes or even intimates that it's "Moral Christian Company," and unlike Walmart, Target, and other retailers, Hobby Lobby hasn't attained the heights of retailing notoriety such that it's all but a household name. Truly, for all the avocational activities in which I participate with a modicum of regularity -- sailing, equestrian sports, cooking, traveling, tennis, chess and bridge -- not one of them has ever militated for my visiting Hobby Lobby. Even the one activity I enjoy and that Hobby Lobby might reasonably be a supplier of effects to support it, entertaining, has not necessitated my going to Hobby Lobby (HL). or discovering a similar retailer of various and sundry bric-a-brac.

FWI, that HL actively engaged in smuggling does speak to their being not particularly ethical/moral. But who the hell would have divined that is what you were getting at with your OP? Some may have were the thread placed in the Religion and Ethics subforum, but as a matter of law and justice, what would have hinted your morality-based topical intent? Nothing that I can see.

They were buying these artifacts for their Bible Museum even though Gilgamesh precedes Genesis by 1000 years. It was written in Akkadian.. They migrated from the Arabian Peninsula.

Perhaps.

But Hobby Lobby’s contempt for the privacy rights of women and the due process rights of gay and transgender Americans runs counter to Constitutional law.

No, Hobby Lobby is not subject to Constitutional law, but it nonetheless exhibits a contempt for the law, in this case contempt for laws prohibiting smuggling.
