Mariners president/CEO resigns after comments

Mariners president and CEO Kevin Mather resigned Monday following the emergence of video in which he expressed opinions about organizational strategy and his views on some players.

The President of the Seattle Mariners has been fired because in a ramblng (but probably entertaining) presentation before a group of Seattle business-folks, he revealed that,

• He had grown tired of having to pay for a full-time interpreter for a long term Japanese player, now back with the club as a coach, and
• Another "Hispanic" player had a big ego and doesn't speak English very well.

The team, after becoming privy to a recording of the talk, concluded that he was guilty of the Capital Crime of failing to appreciate the value of "diversity."

These two innocuous remarks would not have offended anyone who was not already a seriously impaired neurotic. Someone so sensitive could never survive a year as a baseball player.

Professional sports teams should not give a flying FUCK about "diversity." They should be concerned with athletic talent, and if the most talented team they can assemble is ethnically and racially as monochromatic as imaginable, it should offend or bother NO ONE.
