The mayor of Newark was on Morning Joe this morning.

Seems last month was the first month since the 60’s that Newark hasn’t had a murder.

Part of the reason was the crackdown on illegal arms. He said that since they started taking statistics during the last 5 years, in all the murders using guns, only ONE was with a legally owned gun, all the other killings were with illegally obtained weapons.

Every time there is an attempt at reigning in illegal weapons, the right goes ballistic with fear and terror of a “government takeover”.

Is the right really that terrified of our government? They have so little faith in the constitution? If they feel that way, why do they want to be in charge of government? And when they are in charge, why are they so willing to dispense with bothersome rights?

thread title edited to reflect OP contents, rather than rdean's incessant need to blame republicans for everything-del

Are you this naive or is this flame bait?

Misleading title,
What does the article about illegal weapons have to do with republicans?

proof your just a partisan troll.

really reaching there rdean, pathetic really.

Gun control is not strictly a partisan issue, however there is more support for it in the Democratic Party; this is somewhat less so in the Republican Party.[58] The Libertarian Party, whose campaign platforms favor classical liberal (i.e. limited) government and individual rights, is outspokenly against gun control, and this stance is more ideological than the stance of the Republican Party, which represents people who tend to oppose gun regulations.

So making a thread with the title of this one doesn't mean there is any connection at all, except of course in in your little mind.

That is like starting a thread about gay porn and calling it rdean's sausage party, with the justification that rdean is a lefty, lefties support gay rights, so.........

why is this in the conspiracy zone when so many of the anti Dem and anti Obama threads are not and they are as crazy as it gets?

Are you questioning a mod? Just wondering.

By the way the reason I would put it here is because he is claiming that Republicans oppose all gun control and are working behind the scenes to prevent gun control.

I never claimed Republicans are "working behind the scene". They have ALWAYS been "front and center" and "out in the open" against gun control. Haven't they?

You mean there has been "gun control legislation" introduced by Republicans? I guess it's possible, but I never heard of such a thing. If they have, then I'm sorry. It would be a real surprise.

Bush and the Republican Gun Grabbers | Strike-The-Root: A Journal Of Liberty

President Bush’s pledge to extend the ban on semiautomatic assault weapons has gun owners up in arms. The White House announcement came as a surprise to N.R.A. leaders and membership, who were stunned at the decision.

House GOP Proposes to Repeal D.C. Gun Bans (washingtonpost.com)

A majority of the U.S. House of Representatives is supporting legislation that would repeal virtually all of the District's gun restrictions, targeting one of the nation's most stringent handgun bans while the presidential candidates are battling over gun limits.

Rep. Mark Edward Souder (R-Ind.) said House Republican leaders have promised him a vote before the Nov. 2 election on his proposed D.C. Personal Protection Act, which would end a ban on handguns in the nation's capital; remove a prohibition against semiautomatic weapons; lift registration requirements for ammunition and other firearms; and cancel criminal penalties for possessing unregistered firearms and carrying a handgun in one's home or workplace.

Gee, I don't know what to say. I just call it as I see it.

I believe in Gun control. I always use both hands.

But seriously I am in favor of limited regulation. Certain people should not legally be able to carry a firearm, rdean being one of them.

did a maude put this here? If so, where was it originally? I stopped questioning maude behavior years ago after realizing what would make somebody take the position in the first place. :cuckoo:

I'm asking other members if they notice all the accusations of things being labeled lame, when the lamest thing that has happened to USMB has been the proliferation of nonsensical and irrational anti-Obama threads that are based on hooey-ism and fruitcake-lunacies. I wonder why none of them are getting put into the Lame Zone. My concern is for the maude squad. Maudes being AWOL, I worried that maybe...

Perhaps they think that "boy" Obama really is a racist, terrorist, child molester, Marxist, Kenyan, watermelon eating, totalitarian, Socialist, drug addicted, gay, Nazi, black, Muslim, Communist, illegal Alien who wants to kill your grandmother and is the "anti Christ" because the Republicans say so, so it must be true.

For Republicans, you don't need "proof", the accusation works just fine.

And I want to thank all the Republicans who sent me the words I missed.
