KNXV Discovers $343,000 Secret Gathering, AIG Signs and Logos Hidden

Even as the company was pleading the federal government for another $40 billion dollars in loans, AIG sent top executives to a secret gathering at a luxury resort in Phoenix last week.

Reporters for abc15.com (KNXV) caught the AIG executives on hidden cameras poolside and leaving the spa at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort, despite apparent efforts by the company to disguise its involvement.

"AIG made significant efforts to disguise the conference, making sure there were no AIG logos or signs anywhere on the property," KNXV reported.

A hotel employee told KNXV reporter Josh Bernstein, "We can't even say the word [AIG]."

A company spokesperson, Nick Ashooh, confirmed AIG instructed the hotel to make sure there were no AIG signs or mention of the company by staff.

"We're trying to avoid confrontation, keep our profile low," said Ashooh. "Some of our employees have been harassed."

I'm not opposed to a bailout for AIG with restrictions attached - but uh, this is just a blank check. This is just idiotic policy. I want the auto companies bailed out, but i don't want them to have a blank check. wtf is wrong with this administration??

i have opposed these bailouts from the git go
they are wrong
if a business can not run on its own, then it deserves to go out of business
someone else will step up and fill that void

how far do we keep doing bailouts?
we have financial companies, Insurance companies, auto companies
whats hnext?
i hear Circuit City is filing for bankrupcy, should they get a bailout too
they employ a huge number of people
how far do we go with it
where is the financial responsibility?

We would have unemployment in the double digits right now if AIG hadn't been bailed out. We needed to do it. But we should've done it with strings attached AND we bail them out once, but after the first time if they still can't take care of their own business, an FDIC-like entity comes in, takes over the business and slashes everything until you get it profitable again. Then you sell it back to the shareholders, get a new CEO, board of directors and chairman and get this company up and running again.

Don't you love it? Corporations only want capitalism when it benefits them, when they mess up they expect socialism to bail them out what worse, the conservatives are all crying for the bailout (they don't want to lose their money), but when it comes to providing for our disabled or low income people...or even providing a decent minimum wage, no, that's socialism, we can't do that.

Think about it...if they'd given that money to the homeowners in foreclosure so they could pay their mortgages, the banks still would have gotten their money and EVERYONE would have won.

they're both socialism

Didn't Obama vote for that bail-out bill?

The bailout bill had nothing to do with AIG. This was entirely separate. It gets confusing after a while. I'm starting a new thread that counts up how much money the government has spent on bailing out banks and financial institutions.

And Obama also voted for bailing out banks and financial institutions. Didn't you vote for Obama? :eusa_whistle:

Both of the candidates voted for the bailout bill. We didn't have much of a choice. Either vote for the guy that voted for the bill or vote for the guy that voted for the bill.

and mccain suspended his campaign to go work on the bailout. didnt you vote for mccain?

Uh, no one really bought McCain suspending his campaign. He had a couple of meetings with House Republicans and went to the meeting with Obama and Dubyah said one sentence and that was it. He tried to take as much credit as possible for the whole thing then that Monday, it failed and the DOW dropped 777 points. Thanks, John!

Or vote for the guy that condemned the bailouts from the beginning.
