An Art Gallery for the Blind?

o dont be so hasty...if its a gallery of touch and feel why not? ask yourself why a blind person wouldnt like art that is geared to thier senses or lack of?

I guess that my plans to launch the Maine Ochestra for the Deaf probably won't fly, either, then.

Seems a shame, too, given that I could have employed truly crappy musicians so cheaply.

Hey! before you complain about what a bad idea that is, remember that crappy musicians need to work, too.

I once climbed like six stairs in a tower to enjoy the view. In front of the window there was a map, identifying landmarks. There was also a plate in braille. Don't know what it said. But having a blind person climbing six stairs just to tell them what they would have seen if they could see... it seems cruel.

Well if people didn't vote so often based on how much earmarks they're congressperson is bringing in, we wouldn't have this problem. Both sides of the aisle do it constantly. They all want to supposedly cut earmarks, except their own.

Thing is, blind people still have their sense of touch, and it can be more acute that a non-blind person. Ever tried blind-folded sex?

So, if it's in art gallery, there could be statues, and uniquely-textured surfaces where multiple concepts can be interpreted simply by tracing your fingers over it. I think. I'm not blind, so don't know how it is, but maybe it is possible to interpret art through touch.

There's even blind porn.

Artist creates book of nudes for the blind

For the past two years, Lisa Murphy has been converting nude photographs into raised images on thin plastic pages. She has collected her work as a self-published book titled Tactile Minds.

The images are not standard pornographic fare. They depict mostly naked people dressed as elephants, bunnies, a robot and a "satanic ram." One image shows a naked woman disco dancing; she is wearing a belt of stars and a square box on her head. The cover features a vagina.

How do you have an art gallery for the blind? And we should be spending tax payer money on this?

How ridiculous.
Not Really. I’m against earmarks such as this, but this project is not ridiculous. The museum will have artwork that the visually handicapped can touch while listening to audio descriptions. The author of the referenced article is trying to make the point that the congressman is wasting our money on frivolous projects, which may or may not be true. The article is misleading because he does not include the above information, as this would not serve his purpose. Secondly he uses the word “blind” instead of visual impaired simply to make the project sound ridiculous. This is a great example of yellow journalism. The Internet is full of it.

I think the gallery is a good idea.... but not with taxpayers money.... if there is a demand for it, raise the money for it.

I would think the entire world is an art gallery of touch for the blind. Why spend that kind of dough on something that can be got for free?

consider this...legally blind people many times have limited vision...

why are conservatives always against art? or the outcry...dont use my taxpayers money....too bad we dont feel that way when funding wars.

Against art? Because some of us think the money should come from those who want to contribute? What a strange opinion.

And.... just for the record..... let's try to compare like to like instead of apples to orangutans.
