“There’s no accounting for what fate will deal you. Some days you will need a hand. There are other days when you’re called to lend a hand.”

This part of the Presidents speech captured beautifully a moral and ethical basis for Americas future. I am not sure I have heard a better articulation of Socialism ever. It was a beautiful and electrifying moment.

Being poor and needy is not a crime and nor is it a sin. It should not be punishable.
That has nothing to do with socialism. Nothing more than some generic speech garbage.
Well he has to live up to that ideal but as a general principle it is pure socialism.

Socialism in the UK is predicated on the fact that we can all fall on hard times. So we chip in when we are doing well and get help when we are struggling. Its an act of faith.

Too often people on the right stigmatise the poor as moochers or scroungers without considering that it can happen to all of us.
Are you retarded. Socialism is government takeover of private industry. Government sponsored welfare programs isn't socialism.
English speakers don't know what socialism is. In France Italy Spain Germany Scandinavia etc etc They have had socialist and communist parties at the same time and they know the difference. Democracy. Socialism is simply fair capitalism with a good safety net. The United States is the only modern country without a living wage health care daycare paid parental leave cheap college and training great infrastructure and vacations and mainly taxing the rich their fair share. The GOP is a lying swam... 30 + years of giveaway to the rich GOP tax rates have given us the worst inequality and upward mobility ever in our history. Great job change the channel..
Stop with lies comrade. Socialism is Cuba, Venezuela. The government takeover, confiscation of private companies, property, entire industries.
That's communism everywhere in the world but English speaking supercapitalist UK and USA. The UK got lucky after world war II and got socialism-They just don't know it like in Australia New Zealand Canada......
The vast majority of the world is capitalistic with multiple political parties. Stop with the lies.

I got as far as the first obvious lie about No English speakers understanding socialism and just stopped reading.

"We are all socialists now!"-President of Finland when Obamacare passed.... You have been totally confused by many decades of English speaking supercapitalist propaganda into conflating socialism and communism and now naziism for crying out loud...... And by the way Napoleon was taller than the average person of his time and he never said England is a nation of shopkeepers, he said England was a nation of monopolists..... Before that English propaganda were going on about Dutch treats Dutch uncles etc....

It is really quite the stupid statement because it isn't "Fate" that controls our destiny but the decisions we make. Good grief, what is this, like ancient times when ignorant, superstitious people still believed in capricious gods?

It isn't "fate" that makes people thumb their nose at society, apply no effort towards developing a skill, refuse any education offered to them and decide to be a warden of the state. It's their own damn fault. In some cases, it is mental illness, which should be dealt with but isn't because of leftist policies, but taking from the productive in order to support those who don't even WANT to be productive only rewards bad behavior.
On one of our radio shows a few years back there was a caller describing how she made ensds meet because she was a single mother with 5 kids and she was having a tough time. The resident conservative stated that she should not have had 5 kids if she couldnt support them.
This womans husband had died from cancer a year or two previously.

Socialism recognises this, conservatism would rather focus on a few folk who are playing the system.
And yet the remedy is to create a system that makes it so people do not need to support their own children, and creates generational poverty. Surley that can't be seen as a viable solution. Raising the tax rate though the roof to create dependent caste system is kind of sick.

You focus on a minority and would punish everybody for their misdeeds. There are hundreds of scenarios where people need help at some point in their life. Your answer seems to be that they should have made better choices, mainly because a few folk are exploiting the situation.
My view is that every system since the dawn of time has been exploited by someone.

The actual amount of fraud is statistically insignificant when compared to tax fraud.

So to get some perspective, benefit fraud represents 2% of the estimated total annual fraud in the UK. Public sector fraud, which includes benefit fraud, is £20.3 billion a year, so within this category it accounts for just under 8%. The majority of this £20 billion is tax fraud which costs the economy £14 billion annually, or 69%. So we can see that both in absolute and percentage terms tax fraud is a much bigger issue than benefit fraud. In fact, out of all the categories of fraud calculated by the UK Government, benefit fraud is the second lowest. Only identity fraud which costs individuals £1.4billion a year comes below it.

But you hear more about benefit fraud than you do about tax fraud which is a much bigger drain on the public purse. The reason for that is that your masters want it to be that way. In the UK the ratio of benefit to tax investigators is something like 10 to 1 whilst the cash sums involved are around 1 to 10.

Rich people commit tax fraud and poor people commit benefit fraud and the rich set the agenda.

I would rather help someone through a tough period in their life than enable an elite to buy a bigger yacht.

It is not a minority committing fraud. It is a way of life created by the American Left. The family was labeled an archaic thing of the past, and generations of people are stuck in the cycle of poverty. I understand the need of a 'safety net', but creating a dependent caste of poverty is wrong. I have no love of fraud of any kind, and it would be great to clean up tax fraud. Good intentions is no excuse for the wreckage created by replacing the family with government money. There has to be a better way to help the widow or cancer patient. Surely to god there is a better way.

Well I believe that it is a minority. In the article it explains that £2.2bn was paid in fraud but £1.3bn was underpaid. Its a relatively small amount. Compared to tax fraud which costs us £14bn.

If you want to crack it you have three options. You can raise wages, reduce benefits or a mix of the two. Raising the minimum wage takes families out of poverty and reduces the need for benefits.

Socialism is not predicated on that in the UK or anywhere.

Socialism is always based on government force and it is always a failure.

When people choose to chip in and help a brotrher out it is not socialism it is merely compassion and empathy. Whe government steps in and forces ofthers to chip in and help out it is in fact theft and violence.

You get no credit or points for compassion and you are not generous or empathetic to the needy and disadvantaged when you force OTHERS to help or even insist that the government force them to do so.

Well I think that you are describing communism and not socialism.

I suppose its a culture thing. Paying into a common fund to provide a safety net is in the interests of society as a whole. None of it is done at gunpoint and if folk object to it they can vote for a party that wants to abolish it.

No party has ever done that, not even the tories.

So you may say that it is a form of coercion but our taxes pay for many things and not one of us will approve of all of them. You vote for the one that is closest to your mindset. That is democracy and your tax is your ticket to civilisation.

Wrong. The difference between communism and socialism is akin to the difference between murder and manslaughter.

WHen that common fund is the state then it is absolutely done at gun point. Society has no intereasts as it does not exist except as a vague concept. In this case it is merely a concept that goons use to justify robbing people at gun point.

So-cial-ism
/ˈsōSHəˌlizəm/
noun

a political and economic theory of social organization which fosters generationally entrenched poverty, general economic ruin, government dependency, the empowerment of a small cadre of self-anointed elitists over the masses, commodity shortages, soaring costs, social unrest, victimhood, resentment. . . .
synonyms: lawlessness, legalized theft, statism, tyranny, conformity, oppression, oligarchy, enslavement.

There is no perfect system here or anywhere else in the world. I dislike the poor scammer as much as I dislike the rich one. The only difference is the rich one can hurt a lot more people.

Relativist gibberish.

Nor should it be eternal, not in the US. If you continue to be poor and needy in the US its by choice.
