American Propaganda

Actually, the real propgaganda (though poorly disguised) is the ever-present and never changing GOP talking points and fear tactics. They are fighting the good war for corporations and the uber wealthy, but it's hard to evoke warm & fuzzy feelings for either, in light of what they did to the economy and the affect it had on Main St. It's pretty pathetic, actually.

Did you even read the whole thing? Most people in this country WANT serious health insurance reform and most of those WANT a public option. That's why there were so many against it. Not that it went too far... it didn't go far enough. Most want a non-profit co-op or something similar, but the insurance companies made sure (and sure PAID$$$) the right fired up their good 'ol propaganda fear machine. THAT is why we got the bill we did.

Yep much of the stimulus money is going to pet projects for the rich. Golf courses and small airports for corporate jets and such.

And health care reform was designed to benefit the insurance industries and such and fail the people.
Well it was morphed innto that, it did not start that way.

Obama telling you the health care industry was the bad guy, and then feeding them billions upon billions. How stupid are ewe people anyways? No wonder we are screwed, idiots like ewe outvoted the thinking patriots.

;)

We all wanted health care "reform", care for all citizens, and elimination of denial of service. Unfortunately those selling points got mired in massive corruption and our children's future.

The health insurance industry IS the bad guy. Republicans demanded it (public option) be taken off the table before they would even ENTER bi-partisan negotiations. We, hopefully, will get it in the end and give the parasitic insurance industry a REAL taste of competition instead of their steady diet of criminal collusion. Evil, parasitic rip-off artists. I don't know how people who work for health insurance companies sleep at night.

Interesting article. Too bad this thread got into a commentary on the HealthCare bill, instead discussing the general notion of propaganda and it's effectiveness on people.

But the author is wrong in one importatnt fact:

Americans have been masters of propaganda since the Revolutionary War:

How else do you get away with calling English born, English citizens who are fighting a war against England "Patriots"?

Somehow, "Traitors" would seem to fit more accurately.

But, the Americans kind of turned that term around and suddenly these English citizens rebelling against English rule were called "Patriots".

Total propaganda!

"When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men living together in society, they create for themselves in the course of time a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that justifies it."
~Frederic Bastiat

Or citizens who just said the hell with overbearing government. Traitors? No. You've provided some insight into what it took for those "Patriots" to coordinate and have the courage to face off against mighty England of the time. Pretty brave people, and obviously an overwhelming anger at all levels of colonial America. One of the main slogans of the day were to "Join or Die", and the unity it formed among colonialists was initially meant against French expansion. I guess we can watch where this Tea Party movement is heading.........

You're not a traitor if you rebel against a tyranny. You're a patriot.

Liberals don't get it. They like tyrannies.

American Propaganda

Think about the sales job they gave us for the Porkulus Bill and Health Care ripoff they shoved down our throats.

It is amazing 20% of Americans fell for it.

You must be talking about the Republican drug "give-a-way". The Democratic bill is deficit neutral. The Republican drug could cost trillions.

Republican Deficit Hypocrisy - Forbes.com

Instead, Republicans voted to vastly increase them--and the federal deficit--by $395 billion between 2004 and 2013.

However, the Bush administration knew this figure was not accurate because Medicare's chief actuary, Richard Foster, had concluded, well before passage, that the more likely cost would be $534 billion. Tom Scully, a Republican political appointee at the Department of Health and Human Services, threatened to fire him if he dared to make that information public before the vote.

Right on cue, gomer.

That is so FUNNY!

Just like the article said - people are guided more by emotions than logic.

The word "Traitor" has a negative emotional connotation, while the word "Patriot" has a positive emotional connotation.

So you all get upset when I call the American Revolutionaries "Traitors", despite the fact that they were English born citizens fighting against England, while you insist on calling them "Patriots", which is silly, becuase at the time of the Revolution, the U.S. did not exist, they had no idea of what they were fighting for.

At the time there was nothing in existence for them to be Patriotic to. No Constitution, no country, no government to be a Patriot of. NADA!

It's really funny. That article went right over your heads didn't it?

If you voted for Bush...stfu about tyrannies...that loser was as close to a dictator as the US has had in a long time...secretive meetings about the energy policy WITH the energy industry anyone - and NOT open to the public?

At the end of the day, you're just a sore loser....nothing new there....

The GOP has the Democrats beaten hands down. The Republicans are soooooooo much better than the Democrats at crafting their message.

I've been listening to the Republican party lying about the financial reform bill in Congress, saying that it is going to perpetuate endless bailouts and people are falling for it.
