Air America cannot even pay for their coffee

Actually, once a company files for bankruptcy, they aren't allowed to pick and choose the creditors they pay. It has to be left for the Trustee to sort out.

$2,218.05 to a coffee company! I'm not sure what their terms where with that company, but that is a lot of coffee. How do you run up a tab of that amount without paying on a regular basis?

Coffee or not, Air America still cannot generate enough revenue to pay their bills. It appears the market does not support their content.

Not only that, but they're so determined to try to make themselves relevant that they sacrificed good business sense and embraced a model that just begs bankruptcy.

Here's the way it works. Every syndicated talk show host that I know of (Air America excluded, of course) gets paid by their affiliates for the priviledge of having their voice be heard on that station. The host then picks up one or two national endorsements that play during short periods of time during their show. The local station then takes all the commercial time left in the show and sells it locally, offsetting the cost of buying air time from the host. They all also started as local hosts, which work pretty much the same way except they only have one station and their endorsements are mixed with the other commercials.

Air America, on the other hand, wasn't about to start off with only one measly station. They needed to get their message out to the radio fan heathens across the country RIGHT NOW! So, they set up their network...with a crapload of startup capital, and then they paid radio stations to carry their show while they sold the advertising themselves. The problem was that the ratings for Air American were so low that nationwide advertising on Air America cost far less than local advertising on EIB (Limbaugh). It was less than what the stations wanted them to pay to broadcast the programs. In the end, their zeal overcame their business sense and they continued to pay to get their message out until now, when they've got more debt racked up than the combined audience of the Dave Ramsey Show (a show about how to pay off debt).
