You would think that some critical thinking would result. But when the country promotes borrowing more when over 50% of your budget goes to debt service, it is no wonder that these kids don't get it. As Will Rogers once so eloquently put it--"If you want to get out of the hole, QUIT DIGGING."

That's why the only two types of debt excluded from the bankruptcy code enacted and frequently amended by Congress are IRS tax liens, and student loans ... and why Congress continues to amend federal consumer protection laws to exclude student loans.

And so they should. The loan agreement was not forced on them. They entered into it freely and they should be held to the terms just like any other borrower.

You know how you do that? Take the Federal Government out of the equation, after all it's the Federal Government and student loan guarantees that has been largely responsible for driving the cost of tuition up in the first place.

Pump cheap money into the market driving up demand without a matching increase in supply and prices go up, who'd have thunk that?
