This has been a big component of the Democratic platform, especially to get younger voters on board. Looks like they've been burned, predictably so. Even though I would have greatly benefited from this ( I still owe about $40k) I never supported this initiative. It would have bad consequences down the road.

Amazing people would pay to get a degrees in Marxism and Dependent Socialistic Existence.

Screw those math and English courses

100k to learn your country is evil....The greatest duping of all time

Paying off a debt in a timely manner educates college students.

You would think that some critical thinking would result. But when the country promotes borrowing more when over 50% of your budget goes to debt service, it is no wonder that these kids don't get it. As Will Rogers once so eloquently put it--"If you want to get out of the hole, QUIT DIGGING."

If you take on a student loan you did it knowingly and of your own free will. You made an agreement and shouldn't expect others to bail you out because you have buyers remorse.

Sorry to all the people who took a loan out for their under water lesbian folk art degrees, but you are responsible for your own decisions.

But I don't care if a democrat or a republican made promises of erasing student, a politician in general saying they will pay off your student loan would set off my bullshit meter. That was an obvious "hey vote for me" ploy where they pull the rug out from under you once you decide to stand on it.

I took computer science and programing for MS OS I have no idea what you are claiming, and unless you have the cash you take out a loan.

But the type of people who would advocate for the debt relief are exactly the deadbeats that those politicians are targeting. You can't fix stupid--whether you give them a 200K degree or not.

It’s good.

Of course they excluded it. These politicians are all in the pocket of the banking and loan lobby. That's why the only two types of debt excluded from the bankruptcy code enacted and frequently amended by Congress are IRS tax liens, and student loans ... and why Congress continues to amend federal consumer protection laws to exclude student loans.

Yes don't get a college degree and be a person working for a pittance. There's a great idea.

Start making promises and a lot of hands will stretch out.

This has never felt right. What about all the kids and families who took out loans and worked hard to pay them off?

And so they should. The loan agreement was not forced on them. They entered into it freely and they should be held to the terms just like any other borrower.

I get where they are coming from but I just don’t think this is a realistic solution. I’d rather see them work on making higher education more affordable for future/current students.

You know how you do that? Take the Federal Government out of the equation, after all it's the Federal Government and student loan guarantees that has been largely responsible for driving the cost of tuition up in the first place.

Pump cheap money into the market driving up demand without a matching increase in supply and prices go up, who'd have thunk that? ;)

I was thinking free junior college.

But hey, whatever to keep prices down is good with me.
