The Declaration of Independence credits God as the source of justice, stating that, “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” … as John Adams wrote, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” That’s because the Constitution’s design for maximum human liberty works only when the people have a moral compass beyond their own appetites. Absent that, we can rationalize anything.

I didn't read the DNC advocating atheism but rather recognizing atheists, agnostics, and the religiously unaffiliated as groups that shouldn't be discriminated against or excluded from society. They were just reiterating their 'big tent' philosophy, in contrast to the GOP.

To say atheists, agnostics, and the religiously unaffiliated can't be moral and ethical is the same as saying only Christians can be moral and ethical.
