The U.S. responded to a sneak attack by the Japanese on 12/7/1941 that killed an estimated 3,000 people by retaliating and killing an estimated 2-3 million Japanese and dropping two nuclear devices on Japanese citizens during the next four years. The Truman administration would not even talk of surrender terms other than unconditional surrender and occupation. Israel lost roughly the same amount of it's citizens in a sneak attack on it's soil. Israel doesn't demand unconditional surrender but only a cease fire and laying down arms.
