Conservatism Has Failed

Watching the Republican debate last week really highlighted the fact that conservatism is dead. Not so much in the sense that no one believes in it anymore (those 20 percenters are still hangin’ on), but that it has been discredited to the point that very few are willing to give it another chance.

How can you remain a Republican if you believe in smaller government, little or no foreign engagement (to the point of isolationism) and freedom from government intervention in private affairs?

Has it failed, or have conservatives failed?

What is labeled political conservatism hasn't failed. It's redefining itself. The Dems had to do it after Jimmy Carter crashed and burned, and they'll have to do it again after Obama crashes and burns. The age-old conflict inter-party between the old and the new.

I agree. What I find ironic is that it was a liberal declaring that conservatism had failed, as if liberalism was/is such a great success.

I dont see how its possible for it to fail when it has never been tried.

The funny thing is we all want pretty much the same stuff. You would think a single functional party could be created. Instead we get these two ends of a spectrum bickering with each other.

Reputed "conservatives" have failed.

What failed was the republican party, when they failed to give conservatives a true conservative to vote for, for President. RINO's like mclame won't cut it, or a Powell, or a Spectre.

No, it's not conservatism that's dead or failed, it's the republican party, and if the repubs want to regain that conservative vote, they better get back to their conservative roots. Otherwise we WILL see a third party shake up this whole repub, dem stranglehold on the electorate.
