The American worker has faced, and continues to face an enormous crisis. We can save Corporate America, and yet shun the American worker? We can assure that Corporations prosper in the face of poor performance and in the name of economic necessity, while the American worker can be fired without a just cause or stated reason?

The Employment At-Will Doctrine dictates that an employee may be fired for good reasons, unethical reasons, or no stated reason at all. And when an employer does not give an employee a reason for termination, what are they trying to hide?

Approximately 60 million American workers are subject to these conditions in the workplace. It is estimated that Two-Million Americans are fired from their jobs every year. And of those Two-Million workers, many workers are unjustly terminated. Due to no fault of their own, Americans can lose their home, their automobile, their health insurance, their good credit rating, their reputation, and their self-esteem.

We need legislation for just cause practices in the workplace where: 1) Employees are made aware of alleged problems in their performance; 2) Employees are able to voice themselves and describe any discrepancies; 3) A progressive discipline approach will be adopted; 4) A valid reason for termination must be given to an employee; and 5) Everyone is eligible for protection under the law -- not just a select few.

As of October 2000, forty-three U.S. states and the District of Columbia recognize public policy as an exception to the at-will rule

in NY, someone can be fired for any reason or no reason at all... so long as it is not an illegal reason. an illegal reason would be one that is discriminatory or retaliatory.

that's a pretty good start.

We don't need one.

"You misspelled "Taze?"

Whoa, you're a regular genius. It's called being limited to 15 characters in your handle.

everyone needs a minimum wage. the fact that SC doesn't have a minimum wage means you compete for jobs with Mexico. you think our workers should have the same standard of living as those found in mexico?

maybe businesses should have their goods taxed to the hilt if they outsource jobs.

but answer the question... do you think we should be competing with mexico for jobs and reduce our standard of living..... particularly when businesses are making record profits.

hmmmmmmmm?

There is a Federal Minimum wage I thought. But to the point, provide us with evidence that South Carolina is somehow paying third world wages.

You made the Statement that South Carolina had the same conditions as Mexico. Prove your claim. Otherwise I have nothing to respond to.
