1. On Tuesday, during a Q & A at a rotary club meeting, North Carolina Gov. Bev Perdue (D) made a very odd suggestion. Asked what she could do to turn around the economy, Perdue gave a rambling, two-minute answer that included this tidbit:
“I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won't hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that. You want people who don't worry about the next election.”

2. Democratic Senator Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia veered a bit off topic yesterday at a Senate hearing on television retransmission consent, slamming both Fox News and MSNBC for what they each do to “political discourse.”
But it went beyond that – he wouldn’t mind saying “goodbye” to both networks: “There’s a little bug inside of me which wants to get the F.C.C. to say to Fox and to MSNBC, ‘Out. Off. End. Goodbye.’ It would be a big favor to political discourse; to our ability to do our work here in Congress; and to the American people, to be able to talk with each other and have some faith in their government and, more importantly, in their future.”

3. Now, I know some people want me to bypass Congress and change the laws on my own. (Applause.) And believe me, right now dealing with Congress --

AUDIENCE: Yes, you can! Yes, you can! Yes, you can! Yes, you can! Yes, you can!

THE PRESIDENT: Believe me -- believe me, the idea of doing things on my own is very tempting. (Laughter.) I promise you. Not just on immigration reform. So I need you to keep building a movement for change outside of Washington, one that they can't stop. (Applause.)

Is there a pattern in the pronouncements of a party that suggests shutting down elections, banning free speech, and governing outside of the protocols of constitutional republic?

Is there a sub rosa message, that represents wishes not in tune with the history of this nation?

Is there a warning, one to which Americans should pay special attention?

BIG warning. Eliminating the prescribed process and subverting the Constitution and making the POTUS more of a Dictator leaving the people pretty much out of the representitive loop as to decisions that affect thier lives.

Wait...

...here's another Democrat calling for 'less democracy:' Peter Orszag-

"During my recent stint in the Obama administration as director of the Office of Management and Budget, it was clear to me that the country’s political polarization was growing worse—harming Washington’s ability to do the basic, necessary work of governing. If you need confirmation of this, look no further than the recent debt-limit debacle, which clearly showed that we are becoming two nations governed by a single Congress—and that paralyzing gridlock is the result.

So what to do? To solve the serious problems facing our country, we need to minimize the harm from legislative inertia by relying more on automatic policies and depoliticized commissions for certain policy decisions. In other words, radical as it sounds, we need to counter the gridlock of our political institutions by making them a bit less democratic."

"How many Democrats are National Socialists at heart? Quite a few, I suspect, and every now and then the Democrats’ totalitarian urges break through to the surface. Thus, we have the Governor of North Carolina, Bev Perdue, suggesting that we “ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years.” The press assures us that she was just kidding. I would modestly submit that suspending elections is not something an elected executive should kid about....Just a bit? Orszag provides a valuable window into the thinking of the Obama administration when he writes that we–who, exactly, is “we?”–need to “jettison the Civics 101 fairy tale about pure representative democracy” and find “ways around our politicians.

Sure: because the problem with democracy, as seen by liberals, as by National Socialists, is that voters have an inexplicable habit of electing conservatives. The elites really shouldn’t let this happen; or, in any event, should deprive the voters’ preference for conservatism of any practical significance. That is what a great many Democrats really think. Not really, IMO. The comments vary from frustration over political gridlock to a fantasy in which opposition is washed away. Neither should be looked on as being part of an agenda. They're just things people say when things get tough, regardless of political leanings.

It has been the secret wish of the democrat party since FDR tried to stack the Supreme Court. Suspend that pesky Constitution just long enough for the revolutionaries get a foothold and change the fabric of American society.

Speaking as a would-be revolutionary, I can attest from experience that the Democratic Party fits no such description, and that you are suffering from a paranoid delusion about them. I could perhaps wish you were right, but you are not.

1. So your excuse is that
a. A Democrat Governor...hardly a political novice
b. A Democrat United States Senator....hardly a political novice
c. A Democrat President of the United States....ok, this one is a political novice
...simply announce that the would favor a totalitarian governing method...but you are willing to pass this off as merely "... just things people say when things get tough..."

2. And, these Democrats are, in your estimation, idiots?
Hardly schooled in the civil interests and history of the United States of America....
...hey, I might actually agree with you!

3. "...regardless of political leanings..."
Sadly, here you reveal the depth of your political ignorance. You see, it is there 'political leanings' that have been revealed:
...no elections, restrictions on freedom of speech, a dictatorship, less democracy.

4. I believe you actually meant to shield these Democrats by saying "...regardless of political party..."
Of course, this would require you to provide similar aspirations voiced by Republican Governors, Senators, Presidents, economic directors....

Can you do that?

If not, put your dunce cap back on and take you place in the dumb row.

Try to remember, this is a BYOB board: Bring Your Own Brains.

It has been the secret wish of the democrat party since FDR tried to stack the Supreme Court. Suspend that pesky Constitution just long enough for the revolutionaries get a foothold and change the fabric of American society.

Whitey, your point is correct, but your timeline is off.

The first progressive President, Woodrow Wilson, campaigned for the throwing off of the Constitution, and government by 'experts,' technocrats and bureaucrats....unelected.

1. In his 1890 essay, “Leaders of Men,” Wilson explained that a “true leader” uses the masses like “tools.” He must inflame their passions with little heed for the facts. “Men are as clay in the hands of the consummate leader.” “No doubt a lot of nonsense has been talked about the inalienable rights of the individual, and a great deal that was mere sentiment and pleasing speculation has been put forward as fundamental principle,” wrote Wilson, attacking the very individual rights that have made America great. He rejected the principles of “separation of powers” and “checks and balances” that are the foundation of American government: “Government does now whatever experience permits or the times demand….”

2. "Justly revered as our great Constitution is, it could be stripped off and thrown aside like a garment, and the nation would still stand forth in the living vestment of flesh and sinew, warm with the heart-blood of one people, ready to recreate constitutions and laws. "… Woodrow Wilson
"The Modern Democratic State" (1885; first published in 1966)
The Papers of Woodrow Wilson, Volume 5

Wilson intended a very different proclamation, one which supports neither individual rights nor restrictions on the power of government. That has been shown in his writings and those of his contemporary progressives...

And you, my friend, are suffering from a dearth of education.

Here's something I read at DU under the heading of "How We Lost Our Big Chance at Progressive Control of the Federal Courts", where the author was bemoaning Obama's judicial appointments (or lack thereof) in his first year in office when the Democrat's caucus was a super majority and Obama was being cushioned by the "then-relatively progressive-friendly mainstream media":

Imagine 40 of our brightest progressive minds at various federal levels from 2010 to 2060. We HAD THAT CHANCE. No matter WHAT any political winds blow in the executive and legislative branches, we would have had the ability to make policy through progressive judicial fiat.

I have no idea who that poster was, but it was a scary thought and it was one of the first posts I saw at DU. I knew I wouldn't have been welcome there anyway, so I quit reading. That was enough.

And you, my friend, are suffering from a dearth of education.

I will be kind and suggest that you are enjoying a surplus of irony.

I couldn't care less about the degree of kindness you apply....

...the point remains that you and knowledge have about the same degree of
affinity as Charlie Sheen and eHarmony.

In a thread which quotes prominent Democrats - including the Democrat President as wishing for government far from that which made the United States of America the shining city on a hill, you post a claim that says they are lying???

When you come up with a quality response…just give me a call…I’ll be ice skating in Hell.

Amelia, I see your post as evidence that our nation is guided and blessed by the Devine, or Nature's God, or the Creator, or the Supreme Judge of the world, or which ever reference from the Declaration that you choose...

Imagine, had FDR died when Henry Wallace was VP....

...or had Hitler not decided on Operation Barbarossa...

...or had President Obama used his ability to infiltate the judiciary to the fullest extent...

Let's hope they never get the chance at progressive control of the courts.

But...you are exactly the kind of poster who should have remainded at DU and punctured the echo chamber in which liberals reside.

I guess that's one silver lining behind the dark cloud of Obamacare - if Obama hadn't been hung up on achieving what no one had been able to achieve in 100 years (how tired did you get of him bragging about that?) maybe he would have concentrated on stacking the judiciary. Hopefully now SCOTUS will declare Obamacare unconstitutional or we can repeal it when we get the White House in 2012 and can start putting that dark cloud behind us.

DU is a restricted site. It's just for Democrats/progressives. They cherish their echo chamber. I would have had to convincingly pretend to be one of them or would have been booted fast! I wouldn't have wanted to wear that mask.

Wow....I didn't know that.
Why would a site restrict discussion in that way?
Unless they are really afraid of having to defend against conservative thought.

I can sort of understand. I personally welcome people from the left keeping me on my toes. But sometimes it might be nice to be able to talk about deeper things and nuances without fear that the thread would be hijacked by either trolls or even nice people who were still swimming in the shallow waters.
