92% of Americans Prefer Sweden’s Wealth Distribution

Good thing everyone knows how terrible socialism is. Otherwise, these findings would be shocking.

Americans vastly underestimate the degree of wealth inequality in America, and believe that the distribution should be far more equitable than it actually is, according to a new study.

Or, as the study’s authors put it: “All demographic groups — even those not usually associated with wealth redistribution such as Republicans and the wealthy — desired a more equal distribution of wealth than the status quo.”

More interesting than that, the report says, is that the respondents (a randomly selected 5,522-person sample, reflecting the country’s ideological, economic and gender demographics, surveyed in December 2005) believed the top 20 percent should own only 32 percent of the wealth. Respondents with incomes over $100,000 per year had similar answers to those making less than $50,000. (The report has helpful, multi-colored charts.)

The respondents were presented with unlabeled pie charts representing the wealth distributions of the U.S., where the richest 20 percent controlled about 84 percent of wealth, and Sweden, where the top 20 percent only controlled 36 percent of wealth. Without knowing which country they were picking, 92 percent of respondents said they’d rather live in a country with Sweden’s wealth distribution.:eusa_angel:

I highly doubt 92% of Americans prefer Sweden's wealth distribution despite what your links may say. If 92% of people wanted something, it would be done.

But if they really like Sweden's system so much, the solution is simple: Move to Sweden

I lived in sweden for half a year, and am fond of that country EXCEPT for its economic system. If americans actually lived there for the amount of time I did, I sincerely doubt that most would prefer it to the US regarding economics. Incidentally, sweden doesn't have a socialist system - it's a social democracy.

Social democracy is socialism. The call it that so as to not scare Americans, or republicans more like.

They don't say Sweden, just give its wealth ratios. The real place is too cold (temp and people), and the beer is WAY too expensive.

Thanks for that but murkins aren't smart enough to grasp social democracy. Immediately Marxism , Commie and pinko fag bleat from their minuscule brains.

No, it's not. Social democracy, the government of most european countries, is like the welfare state writ large. Socialism is government ownership of the means of production and distribution. There are no socialist countries in europe anymore, and few left in the world.

You need to look up the terms in the dictionary, and in fact there has NEVER been a socialist country that wasn't also communist.

Read up, sparky.

There never has been a Socialist country.

There have been plenty of Social Democracies that were, and are, not "Communist".

So, were those 92% of "Americans" polled, actually 92 out of the 100 who inhabit your rehab facility, Sparky?

'cause this is a bunch o' hogwash, to be sure.

They don't care... if it has the word "social" in it... it's socialist.

Of course it is.....Whenever something dispels your own ideology... it's hogwash. It was a blind study no names of countries were given.... the only thing that MAY have swayed it would be the people they used.... wealthy, poor, middle class, etc. But according to the study, they used a cross section of people that went along with our overall demographics.

I agree, the study is a lie. It's forged from pure bullshit. We got a lot of welfare-minded people in America, but 92% is total bullshit.

The majority of that "92%" couldn't find Sweden on a map.

But I suspect this "92%" is about as legitimate as rdean's 6%.

Fine. I suggest they apply to emigrate to Sweden.
No shit!

Funny thing is, I have many relatives in Norway.....My cousin "Guro" (equivelent to "Maria") is a chef......I met her last year for the first time when she came to the states to visit. She stayed with us for a few days....She too is a chef. We talked about a lot of things. When she found out what I made as an executive chef years ago before opening my own restaurant, She about shit her pants...She's been executive for about 7 years and makes shit, for the exact same pressure and headaches.....She now wants to come here and gain citizenship (legally of course), because she fully understands the deal. Fully understands the land of opportunity is truly here, unless you're a friggin' entitlement seeking idiot.
