80's hair bands.

I was almost glad when the 90's came around and the trend moved away from the hair bands. Some of them were good but the better 80's bands never got much airplay...

It seemed to me like hair bands were American bands trying to create their own identity
in the hard rock/metal music world , which was by and large dominated by the flood of great British bands, even early on - Zeppelin, Sabbath, Deep Purple, then bands like Priest, Maiden, Motörhead, you know the list. Canada had Rush and Triumph, we had Aerosmith, Hendrix, Montrose, & the Aussies had ACDC of course.

Van Halen came along and turned things upside down completely ( he and Randy Rhoads primarily, inspired a whole breed of new shredders like Satriani ) Which gave birth to Metallica and the speed metal and thrash bands.
