72 years ago today conscientious objector Desmond Doss receives Medal of Honor

My uncle and my dad knew Doss very slightly (they were in the 307th of the 77th), but they were part of the assault on Ie Shima, and both were wounded. They learned only through the rumor mill active at the hospital of Doss and his actions on the main island. He attained the dimensions of a demi-god by the time it was all over.

I posted his story under my Military Hero's thread. I have nothing but respect for someone like Mr. Doss even though he did not believe in violence he still contributed to the war effort and saved many lives.

We had a guy in basic that waited until the last couple weeks of training to decide he was a CO. That guy was a real shitbag.

Some COs are COs because they are scared.

Others are the real deal.
