CNN Overjoyed by Phony Jobless Numbers
March 06, 2015

Forbes magazine, March 2nd, this year issue, headline: "Unemployment Is Dropping Thanks to a Republican Policy That Obama Opposed -- In January, in his annual State of the Union address, President Obama bragged that 'our economy is growing and creating jobs at the fastest pace since 1999.' It's great news... But according to a new paper from the National Bureau of Economic Research, the recent improvement in the labor market may be due to a policy change that Obama adamantly opposed: ending extended unemployment benefits."

Yo, I have tissues for you Puppets if you need some?

Three of the biggest contributors to the 5.5% "unemployment" rate reported for Feb. 2015:

1.) More people have given up looking for work altogether, and so are technically not counted as being part of the labor force any more. But despite the 5.5% "unemployment" rate, the percentage of Americans in the labor force is the lowest it's been in generations.

2.) When enough TEA Party congressmen voted against extending Unemployment benefits longer than 99 weeks and the extension didn't pass, those benefits started expiring in 2015... and many of the people who had gotten them, got jobs instead.

3.) When Obamacare redefined "part-time work" as being less than 35 hours/week, instead of less than 40 hours as it had been, many companies cut their employees' schedules to less than 35 hours/week to avoid having to pay Obamacare's high health care charges. They then hired more employees (also at less than 35 hrs/wk) to make up the missing hours. So more people were listed as "employed" though they were now working fewer hours and getting less pay.

But if you're waiting for the liberal fanatics to acknowledge any of this, don't hold your breath. Telling the truth doesn't boost their agenda. In fact, telling the truth usually harms it.

There are less than 1 million discouraged workers who have given up looking and dropped out of the labor force.

Employment Situation Summary
Among the marginally attached, there were 732,000 discouraged workers in
February

What a pantload!
The 99 weeks started expiring in 2011, and the last 3 states expired in Sept 2012.
As the UE rate went down, less and less states were eligible for extensions independent of anything the Tea Bag Brotherhood did.

More pure BULLSHIT!

The number of people working PT for economic reasons is LOWER now than when Obamacare became law.

Two points:

One, total unemployment (counting "marginally attached" people and under-employed workers) is 11%. As this St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank graph shows, the total unemployment number (the U-6) is still higher than it ever was at any point during the Bush administration (except during the last three months of Bush's second term, when the financial meltdown occurred). "Marginally attached" means they are unemployed and want work but can't find work--and are not counted in the standard unemployment figure because they did not look for work in the previous 4 weeks. (LINK, LINK)

Two, the economy has started to modestly improve in spite of Obama, not because of him. Businesses and investors began to breathe again after the GOP took control of the House and when they knew there was finally a check on Obama's reckless borrowing and spending. And the business sector is even more encouraged now that the GOP controls the Senate as well. Also, 31 of 50 state governments are controlled by the Republicans, and those governments have been balancing their budgets while cutting taxes and easing regulations, which has put billions of dollars back into people's pockets and has made it easier for some businesses to start and/or operate.

The far rights and the enemies of America cry at 5.5% unemployment. It has taken more than six years to repair the Bushies' economic collapse, and the far right thugs are crying?

But Bush opposed and tried to stop the federal intervention that did the most to cause the Great Recession, i.e., Freddie and Fannie's disastrous intervention in the housing market, which in turn led to the bundling of sub-prime loans into toxic assets, which triggered the financial meltdown. If the Democrats had not repeatedly blocked Bush's attempts to rein in Freddie and Fannie, there would have been far fewer sub-prime home loans to bundle into toxic assets, and thus far fewer toxic assets and a much milder recession (or even just a modest slowdown).

Bush was opposed by members of both parties, and more importantly, his party had the majorities in the national legislature from 1994 to 2006. It is on him.
