Number of Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents on Food Stamps Doubles

17 Jan 2014, 6:41 AM PDT 183
The number of Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWDs) receiving food stamps zoomed from 1.7 million to 3.9 million between Fiscal Year 2007 and Fiscal Year 2010. In that same period, food stamp recipients in total grew from 26 million to nearly 40 million.
One reason for the catastrophic growth in the number of ABAWDs is Barack Obama’s 2009 stimulus bill, which opened the door for states to waive the work provision required of ABAWDs. That work provision mandated that to continue receiving food stamps, after three months of being unemployed ABAWDs must work or perform some type of work activity 20 hours per week.

The highest in 5-1/2 years.

As for the incentive to work... well we know where that went.

Raise the min wage to $10 an hour and at least 1/2 those people no longer qualify. DUH!!

Why not just tax anyone making over a million a year at 90%
Why not just tax anyone who has wealth valued over a million at 100%
Why not tax capital gains for everyone at 100%....

I'm sure the lefties will support this.

If they work 20 hours a week they aren't unemployed and those hours probably pay for the food provisions.

I don't understand this. Are homeless people without dependents able to get SNAP?

No. In fact it's quite hard to get them. Being destitute is considered too wealthy. Especially if you're a white male.

Yes, but when there are bills to pay and food to buy, working 18 hours a day for $2 an hour is not worth it.

The report went on to say that the demand for skilled jobs and tech-heavy jobs are going un-filled because we just don't have the knowledge, training, and expertise that we used to have. This was an NPR broadcast BTW.

Around here they were bringing people in to work from other areas, even though we are above the national average for unemployment...Seems for the good jobs you have to pass a drug test...No one around here can do that.

Hell yes. Our schools have been dumbed down to accomodate all the low-IQ minorities. Plus our colleges teach useless liberal arts when STEM is all that matters. About a year ago i read of a guy with a PHD in puppetry who can't get a job.

What are the qualification for the jobs?

Where are the jobs?

Are they all in urban areas?

You realize that a lot of people getting food stamps have jobs -- at Walmart, teachers, pilots.

What about low-IQ whites, how do we dumb it down enough for them?

Christian schools perhaps?

I personally think its wrong to teach a fairy tale as science or history.
