Depends on how you view the world, I guess.

Yes, we could spend money on people who aren't pulling their weight in society. What impact would that have on society?

A portion of the money came from 72,000 entrants in a sweepstakes that offered the chance to win a seat on the flight. Entrants were encouraged, but not required, to donate to St. Jude, according to the contest rules, which estimated the retail value of the space flight at $2.21 million.

Crew member Chris Sembroski, a 42-year-old data engineer and U.S. Air Force veteran from Everett, Wash., entered the lottery by donating. He didn’t win, but a friend did and gave him the slot, according to the Associated Press. Want to see wasted money?

The estimated aggregate cost of the War on Poverty is nearly $28 trillion, which is three and a half times higher than the $8 trillion total price tag of every major war since the American Revolution.

Well, instead of buying things like computers or a new car, feel free to donate all of your money to build houses for them.

Basically, it was their money. And they had a right to spend it any way they wanted. It was their money, not your money.

We have spent countless trillions of dollars on homes for people over decades. Many seem to not want to ever improve themselves. For the homeless there is an issue. But there are different problems with individuals. We still need to advance. We need to find cheaper ways to get into space. Government can not do it cheaply. As other companies improve their technologies the competition will bring prices down. Government has lied to us all to often. The Shuttle was advertised to the public as being a cheap spacecraft to fly and a quick turnaround time of two weeks for each ship. It ended up being expensive and high maintenance wit a longer turnaround time. The endgame is the Space Launch System that is nearing its first flight. Derived from the Shuttle Rockets, it was supposed to take a few years to develop and fly at a cheap price. We have spent near 20 billion dollars just developing the system up to now. It may cost a couple of billion dollars to launch one of these rockets if it is only once or twice a year. This was supposed to be cheaper then the Shuttle which was a minimum of 500 million dollars just to roll it to the pad and without a mission. They promised.

People are free to spend their money any way they choose. I may not agree, but they can do so.

Ain't freedom grand?

Trickle down theory? It's not trickling down. I think they softened it with a St Jude lottery to assuage their hedonistic guilt for such extravagance.

Really, you didnt see the trickle down? Who built the rocket? Who supplied the parts to that rocket? Who supplied the food and materials for the employees who built that rocket. See dumbass progs have no clue how an economy works, just parrot the Marxists talking points, dictated by them by their masters.....

Yes, I worked for Lockheed Missiles & Space Company and benefited from the trickle down, i.e. didn't get laid off.

How many workers benefitted from jobs at SpaceX? Elon Musk didn't actually build anything. He PAID people to design and build it.

I realize that the trickle down economics is bullshit. But condemning a private person for spending their money is laughable.

If it were tax dollars I would agree.

But this is private money. People were hired to design and build a pretty impressive item. And they did it successfully.

When you have millions of dollars, you will get to decide what is done with the money. Until then, you don't.

Sure, SpaceX trickled down to the middle class. But how much of it trickled down to those not making a living wage? A whole lot of people are not benefitting from the glory of the space age.

America's unemployment rate is at a half-century low, but it also has a job-quality problem that affects nearly half the population, with a study finding 44% of U.S. workers are employed in low-wage jobs that pay median annual wages of $18,000.

And just what do you think should be done about this?

Fuck those not making a living wage, i am so tired of the poor, being poor, even after 28 trillion dollars has been spent on the poor, and yet ...they are still poor. If they cant make it in the US, that is their fucking stupid fault...
