Opinion: Scary new GOP poll - Yahoo! News

NEW YORK – On the heels of health care, a new Harris poll reveals Republican attitudes about Obama: Two-thirds think he's a socialist, 57 percent a Muslim—and 24 percent say "he may be the Antichrist."

67 percent of Republicans believe that Obama is a socialist

The belief that Obama is a “domestic enemy” is widely held—a sign of trouble yet to come.

45 percent of Republicans agree with the Birthers in their belief that Obama was "not born in the United States and so is not eligible to be president"

38 percent of Republicans say that Obama is "doing many of the things that Hitler did"

high percentages of Republicans believe that President Obama is "racist," "anti-American" "wants the terrorists to win" and "wants to turn over the sovereignty of the United States to a one-world government."

------ Respondents without a college education are vastly more likely to believe such claims, while Americans with college degrees or better are less easily duped. It's a reminder of what the 19th-century educator Horace Mann once too-loftily said: "Ignorance breeds monsters to fill up the vacancies of the soul that are unoccupied by the verities of knowledge."

The Marine, Kody Brittingham, a 20-year-old lance corporal, wrote that he had taken an oath to “protect against all enemies, both foreign and domestic.” In a signed “letter of intent,” tucked away in his barracks at Camp Lejeune, he identified a “domestic enemy” he planned to eliminate last winter: President Obama.

it was the nature of the threats that concern them and because the factors behind the increase remain — Mr. Obama’s race prime among them.

We've been saying that. And people ask me why I think Republicans are dangerous.

Well Manu, I hardly believe that, however, with the major policy goal of his administration passed, he may well turn the Repub attitude into a real vote getter for the Democratic Party.

No need to despair, however. If the Dems maintain their majorities, you can bet that by 2016, they will be doing things just as dumb as the Repubs were doing in 2007 and 2008. Power and human nature.

I always enjoy reading unbiased articles. Which is why I think this article is crap.

And.... the title of the thread isn't actually an accurate representation of the information in the article. Well, heaven forfend! I so did not expect that... except I did actually expect that... cuz rdean lacks the ability to accurately portray basic facts.

I feel sorry for rdean. It must be hard to be that partisan and that stupid.

Polls are meaningless. They are made to try and herd the sheep. If you give credence to survey polls, make sure and stop to listen to your own bleating.

We are to govern ourselves by the supreme law of the land, not a poll.

Really? What's wrong with it?

The results seem pretty consistent with other polls I've read.
Online polls are totally unscientific. How many names can you use to enter and answer the questions? As many as you have time to use. There is no way to get a fair representation of the population in an online poll.

And this is the Party that wants to convince us that they are sane, rational and ready to once again rule this country

Nope. We wont waste our time trying to convince you.
Or anyone else when you allow your party to be influenced by people represented by this poll.

Thats the problem with the GOP. They have turned the party over to the lunatic fringe and now can't get free of them

24% think Obama is the antichrist.

57% think Obama is a muslim.

90% think Boehner and McConnell are doing a fine job.

This is what special identity politics have led the Republicans to in the first decade of the 21st century. Oh vey!
