2-year-old finds unsecured gun, shoots himself in the head, now in critical condition

I don't own a firearm that a two year old could cock or chamber a round into. Are people leaving guns out with a round in the chamber and cocked?

Not having a round chambered doesn't make a lot of sense.

Having the hammer cocked is an entirely different story...

Leaving a loaded firearm in the reach of children does not represent an accident, it represents reprehensible irresponsibility.

A 2 year old got a hold of a loaded gun and you don't see where there's any irresponsibility?

Seriously?
ALL accidents involve a degree of irresponsibility on the part of a person.

So why is it people think an accident with a gun is somehow worse than an accident with any other object even if both result in the death of a child?

It is quite simply and obviously not true that all accidents involve irresponsibility.
Every such incident as this one involving firearms is absolutely negligence with a device of devastating consequence..

Of course they do.

Anything activity involving humans will be prone to accidents.

So tell me why is an accident with a gun somehow more horrific than any other accident that results in the death of a child?

Bode Miller and his wife let their toddler drown in their pool and they were media darlings for months if that toddler has shot himself with a gun they would have been pariahs

if this story doesn't cause major gun reform, nothing will!

No
If this story doesn't cause major parental/cultural reform nothing will.
What kind of IDIOT has a loaded gun, with bullets in the chamber, laying open in their bedroom with a home with small children?> - a criminal who lives a life where they feel the need to do just that.
Probably a drug dealer. Probably has a criminal record as long as your driveway - and probably released from jail repeatedly for one criminal offense after another.

Ex-Newport News police officer pleads no contest to leaving gun unattended, after young son accidentally shoots and kills himself

I dunno'.

Maybe because guns are scary and make loud noises...

31 children under 5 die annually from accidental poisoning.
Can’t find the number from guns because the hits are all propaganda sites. They include an age category up to 14.

Yeah...that is one of the anti-gun fascist tricks.....they mislabel "child," to include gang members and hardened child criminals versus normal kids in normal homes.
