Schools are failing... and just think, neither candidate is really hammering this point. I know Trump is going to push school choice in his next four years... man, it can't get here fast enough. Where is the outrage?

12th grade students: 37% reading proficiency, 24% math proficiency... ugh
The 2019 results for 12th grade student achievement just came out for the United States:
37% reading proficiency
24% math proficiency

HUMILIATIN'!!!

Democrats find people are easier to manipulate, lie to, control, & rule if they are uneducated / stupid...which is why more emphasis is put on indoctrination than education.

Uneducated poor people are the ones who rely on social programs to live and will vote for Dems to keep those programs funded and growing.

Bill Ayers and the socialist domestic terrorists realized taking over the education system would change this country, not bombing it.

How do you know liberals control colleges? An audit / investigation exposed colleges accepting and failing to report $6.5 BILLION in foreign gifts, payments (bribes), and contracts that were never reported to the US govt.

If you noticed in the last 6 months quite a few foreign / Chinese spy-professors / scientists have been caught & booted from the country.

Liberal Academia, like Feinstein & the Biden's, are selling out / betraying our country to the Chicoms, Russians, Iranians, etc...

The leftists have destroyed our public education system. So much so, that the products of these schools will have no choice but to vote for the very people that destroyed them in order to survive.

When we decided to go with private schools my mom told me they'll interview your children...then told me to interview them.

Wise mama

Public schools suck. I taught in them for three years. Zero accountability for students. They are basically baby sitting services. Please, if you have school age children do not send them to public schools.

Hey FuckRodgers, when are you going to read? That's not what the study showed. It shows 37% above reading proficency and 24% above math proficincy. Do you even know what the NAEP is? I doubt it very seriously of you would know that it is a tiny percentage of public schools. It is just like the polls that show Biden beating Trump by double digits. We all know that isn't happening.

School administators these days realize that a kid cannot be shaped into a right, proper social justice warrior if they receive an actual education.

They are so much easier to control if they don't know too much.

Anything to discredit public schools. Some are bad yes. Some are very good. This is comparable to trump derangement syndrome....hypocrites

Complete success of the democrat run indoctrination system

Either President Trump completely reforms it in Term 2 or kiss the USA buh-bye

Indoctrination I equate with Sasquatch. Ohhh it's there but you couldn't find an ounce of it in our public schools. What a load of empty garbage. What do you want? Kids running around like red white and blue cheerleaders? If you don't love me it then quit your job, give up your salary, and teach.

I don't know what to make of this without seeing numbers, but there is only one way to make proficient readers, and that's to READ. Kids aren't waiting with baited breath for the newest Nancy Drew mystery anymore. It used to be a rainy day form of entertainment, but not so much anymore. Everything (including Harry Potter ferchrissakes) is a movie in months. Videos have replaced literature. And let's face it, some people have never found reading fun.

From struggling to teach high school English from the existing textbooks, in my limited experience it seems people are giving kids stuff to read that is antiquated and in vernacular we no longer speak. The classics are great for kids that are already proficient readers, but handing Thoreau or Mark Twain to my students was like handing them Greek.

Anyway, I realize this isn't partisan enough for you guys, but imo, it's part of the problem. If you're really concerned, get out there and encourage kids to read, from the time they're able. Read them bedtime stories every night from the time they're two, or one, doesn't matter. When they're older, are those vampire series wrong? Hell, no. Get them proficient and then you can start teaching them the more complex turns of language. We learn way over 90% of our vocabulary by reading it or hearing it spoken. We figure it out in context. To be a good reader, you have got to read, and read a lot until you're good at it..

Maybe technology is making text obsolete, I don't know, but it seems that even on Twitter, people need to be able to decipher words AND actually understand their meaning (the two don't necessarily go hand in hand).

And how do you know this? How long have you been working as a teacher?
