According to this report football generated $134 million in income - private money - and only cost $48 million

Thats almost $90 million in profit for the university which seems like a good deal for taxpayers to me

Which has exactly zero to do with the football program. College football isnt field hockey, it generates money for colleges and universities. How about this we just eliminate all the sports at colleges which are not either self-sustaining or a net income positive for the universities. Doing away with football at UGA (or most other colleges) will not lower the tuition a penny.

Few college athletic departments turn a profit or break even writ large. That said I dont know what that is because none of the programs under that umbrella are self sustaining or if the AD budget is bloated due to having to have programs which are not self sustaining monetarily. I would venture to say that colleges were not allowed to spend any money on athletic programs which not generated by the athletic department it would blow up title 9 and most men's sports as well.
