I’ll have to catch up on this thread but based on the original post I am in the camp of not really worried which isnt a choice. Everyone always thinks they have it rougher, the country is worse, kids are lazier, their opponents are more evil..blah blah blah. It happens in every era and every generation. This is nothing new. This is what happens when a fat society has few worries… they make up shit to worry about.

The biggest issue in our instability is the massive amount of people who want to tear it all down vs fix it. Meh. They wont win. People are too comfortable in their lives to ruin it all. Bet.

Some people say our divisions are not that big a deal, that we've seen them before. Personally I don't think that's true. One thing that concerns me the most is the amount of people who don't seem to WANT our divisions healed. It seems they'd rather have some kind of final, winner-take-all war, thinking the other side can somehow be eliminated.

Do you want to see our divisions healed? It would certainly require communication with people who disagree with you, and you would have to bend somewhat, regardless of where you stand politically.

America has that winner take all mentality that is deeply ingrained in America culture

Most states (except 2 and the District of Columbia award all their delegates to the winner based on vote count which is a winner take all mentality

Sports have the winner take all but does make some exception in ties based on what sport and its rules when there is a tie. Eventually they will call it a tie or have a one shot match to determine winner.

It has never happened before in America, not in any generation or era, and I think you know it.

There is nothing holding us together anymore. Nothing.

No doubt the further the person existed on the scale, the less likely they'd be to bend. The same goes for both ends.

That's why it's critical that those who honestly want to collaborate have to have more influence. How does that happen in our present condition? I don't know.

Start by realizing you are dealing with many parties(persons) who have values and principles that are absolute to them, and which they don't want to "bend" on.

Human history is filled with difficulties in finding a place of compromise that is acceptable to both sides.
Which is why history is filled with conflicts and wars.

In context of the many threads and posts that circle around this sort of topic, a fundamental is that each/opposite sides have different definitions of "what's good for the country".

For example:

One side wants Equal Opportunity with gains/rewards proportional to effort & investment. Do a lot - get a lot; Do little - get little; be happy and accept where you end up.

Other sides wants Equality, or Equity; everyone gets an equal share/part. Of course human nature seldom works that way, mainly because those who do more, notice that those who do less get just as much, so the 'do mores' do less, since there's no gain for them to do more. So long is everything is left up to free will. Of course history again shows that before things get to the point that nothing is getting done and every one will starve, usually a bully group of thugs will take control and make the rest work or feel the whip.
