And let's not forget that pipeline was going to go across an aquafer that stretched from the Dakota's to Texas and New Mexico. Used by millions of people, their livestock and farms.
If it got contaminated, the devastation it would've caused could've been several states wide. Especially with the chemicals they had to use just to thin that tar sands crap out so it would flow. Even with all those chemicals, that pipeline had to be pressurize more than just a normal crude oil pipeline.
