JERUSALEM (AP) — Former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Sunday urged Israeli leaders to relinquish the idea of a unified Jerusalem if they truly want peace, contending in a pair of interviews that years of government neglect have kept the Jewish and Arab sectors irreparably divided.

The comments, made as Israel marked the 45th anniversary of capturing east Jerusalem, were nearly unprecedented for a mainstream Israeli leader and put Olmert at odds with his successor, Benjamin Netanyahu. Celebrating Israel's control of the city on the Jewish state's "Jerusalem Day," Netanyahu declared his government was committed to keeping it the country's undivided capital.

"No Israeli government since 1967 has done even a smidgen of what was needed in order to unify the city in practical terms. That is a tragedy that is going to lead us, for want of another choice, to making inevitable political concessions," Olmert told the Maariv daily.

Nah, that was the most peaceful time in Paleshitian history. Jews were arming their police, partnering up and building lucrative wine making, textile, manufacuturing etc. businesses in Gaza and West Bank, Palestinians were getting prosperous like never in their history. Most of the framework for the final resolution had been laid out, if only Bill Clinton would not have pushed it too far too fast in search of a "legacy" for himself, that the corrupt terrorist theif Arafat who stole billions of his own people's money would have an excuse to refuse it. He knew if he accepted a peace plan, that would be the end of him getting money from Iran, Iraq, the Saudis etc., to continue being at war and keep killing Jews while he stole most of it. That would be the end of his thuggery and theft enterprise. The plan naturally fell apart and the Palestinians got their wish, to live in misery and blame the Jews for it, and revert back to terror.
