The tick on Uncle Sam´s ass continues its aggressions against its neighbors.

"BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:45 A.M.) – The Lebanese Army increased their presence along the Israeli border, Tuesday, following the IDF’s repeated violations in the occupied Sheba’a Farms area.

According to a Lebanese Army communique, their forces have been observing the IDF’s recent construction of earthen barricades and trenches near the village of Al-Ghajar and occupied town of ‘Abbasiyeh.

In addition to the IDF’s illegal construction projects, the Israeli Air Force continues to violate Lebanese airspace, despite repeated warnings from Beirut about respecting their territorial sovereignty.

Recently, the Israeli Defense Forces infuriated the Lebanese Army after the former fired a smoke grenade at their positions near the Sheba’a Farms; this was observed by the UN forces present inside the country."

Periodically, under pressure of the Hezbollah, which is the de facto semi-autonomous government in the al-Bekka Valley, Lebanon puffs-up its chest and engages in saber rattling. But at the end of the day, the controlling document Letter dated 9 June 2000 from the President of Lebanon addressed to the Secretary-General, (A/54/914 S/2000/564 12 June 2000) wherein the General Émile Lahoud, then President of the Lebanese Republic stated:
President of Lebanon said:
I should like to convey to you my particular gratitude for the efforts that you, personally, are making to assist Lebanon and in the endeavour for the implementation of Security Council resolution 425 (1978) and the verification of Israel’s withdrawal to the international boundaries. I should also like to thank you for the pains taken by the United Nations team headed by your Special Envoy, Mr. Terje Roed-Larsen.

This letter is the basis for the deployment of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and maintenance of the peace since 2002. It is a most interesting letter; one that everyone talking oon the subject should be aware of --- as it has far reaching ramifications.
Remember the definition of a "treaty:"

Article 2 Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties 1969

1. For the purposes of the present Convention:

(a) “treaty” means an international agreement concluded between States in written form and governed by international law, whether embodied in a single instrument or in two or more related instruments and whatever its particular designation;

‘Abbasiyeh (Aabbassiyeh) is a village in Lebanon.

There are a couple factors on this territorial dispute.

• This issue is not about the Farm itself, but one of the sovereignty of the territory.
• All sides agree that the documentation of the border in this region was questionable.
√ The French Administration did not do its part to mark the borders.
√ Neither the Lebanese and Syrian governments did not mark the borders.

Even if the Lebanese Army mounts a successful, it is highly questionable as to whether or not it can hold the ground.

Most Respectfully,
R
