Your boss could fire you for using birth control

Should your boss be able to fire you if he disagrees with your reproductive choices?

Republicans Vote To Allow Employers to Discriminate Against Women Who Believe In Choice

Coming soon to an office near you: Imagine yourself in your boss’ office explaining why you are on the pill or being asked your beliefs about abortion as you apply for a job. If you like this idea, thank a Republican.

In the late hours of Thursday evening in an attempt to quietly pander to the crowd of Republicans who feel that by not being allowed to impose their religious beliefs on others they are being harmed (aka, the “religious freedom” crowd last seen trying to deny gay couples the right to a wedding cake), “small government” Republicans voted to overturn a District of Columbia law that protects women from discrimination at work due to their use of contraceptives, having an abortion or getting family planning.

In other words, they voted to make sure your boss has the right to not only know but discriminate against you if you are on the pill, get family planning, or choose to have an abortion for whatever reason.

But, the GOP says there's no war on women. They also say they are in favor of personal liberties and that they're in favor of "small government".

What they don't say is that to the rabid right, "small government" means more laws and more control over your private lives.

Needless to say, President Obama will veto this monstrous bill but you can bet we will be hearing more about it in the future.

What if one of the RW nutters is elected prez? Both Cruz and Paul are in favor of this law.

Imagine you own a business you worked so hard for and invested your life in.

And having the freedom to hire who you want...based on your standards.

Freedom.

Not enough information.

However, should some liberal bitch decide to have an abortion - liberal birth control - on a desk in the office then there might be grounds for dismissal.

I'm going to need to see the text of the bill. It's currently illegal to ask those questions especially in an interview. I really, really hate that site, Luddly. It's a lot of shoddy work.

I've looked at several articles on this, from various sites and not one of them mentions condoms.

The Republicans think its okay for men to practice birth control but not for women. How is that supposed to work?

And apparently, its okay for men to have sex for fun but not okay for women.

I notice above that several posters seem to be agreeing that an employer should be able to fire a woman for her reproductive decisions and choices but only one has had the gumption to vote that way in the poll.

Do you really expect a site that bills itself as real liberal politics to have something remotely resembling reality?

Tipsycatlover

That's a pretty position to take. Can you post proof the Republican congress did not vote to pass this bill? Of course you can't.

What do you expect from a clown?

Muhammed

Can YOU post proof that the pubs did not vote to pas this bill?

Nope.

Even though you know better, you both say the link is not true.

For those who want more info or who, like the drunk dog washer and Moohamed, say its not true, here's a bit more info. If this is not enough, go look for it yourself.

How in the world does that even come up in a conversation?

Makes you wonder what the right has in mind.

It used to be legal for employers to ask very personal questions. If the RWs have their way, it will be again.

Does beating off count?

Actually, as we've seen here, some fundies do think masturbation is wrong, sinful, yadda yadda.

Wouldn't surprise me if the pubs want to outlaw that as well. Don't encourage them.
