Young New Yorkers Fleeing State Over High Taxes, Fewer Jobs

Blue States will resemble Detroit in the future. That's what happens when hard-working productive Citizens are treated like shit for too long. They just pack up and leave. Then the Blue States are only left with Loser-Takers for residents. The Producers just move on. Socialists/Progressives destroy everything they touch. We shouldn't talk about this too much though. Because Blue Staters invading Red States is not necessarily a good thing. These Blue Staters tend to bring their political baggage with them. So lets keep this stuff on the D/L. But Red States are Rising while Blue States are Falling. This is happening.

ALBANY - Escape from New York is not just a movie - it's also a state of mind.

A new Marist College poll shows that 36% of New Yorkers under the age of 30 are planning to leave New York within the next five years - and more than a quarter of all adults are planning to bolt the Empire State.

The New York City suburbs, with their high property values and taxes, are leading the exodus, the poll found.

Of those preparing to leave, 62% cite economic reasons like cost of living, taxes - and a lack of jobs.

"A lot of people are questioning the affordability of the state," said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion.

An additional 38% cite climate, quality of life, overcrowding, a desire to be closer to family, retirement or schools.

Over one-third is a pretty staggering number, but it's not surprising. The cost of living in NYC or anywhere near it is outrageous. The cost of doing business in the state is incredibly high.

The fact of the matter of is you can achieve a higher standard of living in the southern U.S. for half the cost. That's one of the things that brought me here from Boston, but Boston was far livable than NYC. The future for New York City and State are bleak if they don't get their act together.

Interesting stats:

A 2009 report by the Center for an Urban Future found that "a New Yorker would have to make $123,322 a year to have the same standard of living as someone making $50,000 in Houston. In Manhattan, a $60,000 salary is equivalent to someone making $26,092 in Atlanta." Even Queens, the report found, is the fifth most expensive urban area in the country.

The implications of Gotham's "hourglass economy" -- with all the action on the top and the bottom and not much in the middle -- are daunting.

The Socialist/Progressive Democrats are turning New York into a failed Taker-State just like they did to California. When the Takers begin to outnumber the hard working Producers,it's all down-hill from there. New York & California are ok places to visit but are not good places to live or raise a Family. The hard working Producers are fleeing. And for good reason.

Retirees are fleeing NY in droves too. We left Suffolk County NY after retiring at age 55. Between the local property taxes and State Income Tax, we would have to leave to have a better quality of life. 2002 to Venice Florida. There is no State Income Tax, property taxes are low and our car insurance was 60% less. The other day I saw a Florida License Plate that said FLED NY. The last few years the number of NY Plates in Sarasota County has increased quite a bit. These people are not snow birds. Thank you Andrew Cuomo for increasing our tax base.
