You Didn't Build That: Readings from the Book of Barack

“If you've got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen”

Barack Hussein Obama

I think there are quite a few Americans that disagree with that statement and they will respond come Nov.

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn't get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet. The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together.

He's right.

You should make that Obama quote your new signature all the way til election day. :)

I'm thinking that this speech will be studied for a century in future Poly Sci courses as one of the most damaging self-inflicted wounds during an election cycle..

Here's hoping it becomes a classic!!!!

Right up there with Willie Horton. You wouldn't think that a few words could do so much.

Probably the reason they had to put Papa Obama back
on the teleprompter

Roads and bridges are 'them', not 'that'. Grammatically, he was referring only to the business when he said 'you did not build that. Somebody else made that happen.' Which makes him wrong, dumb ass.

How "You didn't build that" became "He didn't say that"

What do you do when everybody's claiming your president said something, and you just know he didn't really say it, but all the video and all the audio and all the transcripts show that he did say it?

This is the dilemma faced by supporters of President Obama in the long wake of last week's "You didn't build that" speech.

The president's opponents are making a big fuss over comments that are on their face contemptuous of individual merit and out of step with American popular opinion.

The president's supporters have a multipronged counterargument: Either he didn't make those comments or they were taken out of context or even if they are in context they don't matter because we should be reading between the lines.

That 'bout sums it up.. The comments stand and probably will become legend. Like the "read my lips" phrase...

Sounds like you can't take a piss without someone helping you.

Of course you'd think he's right.

Good idea. It's smart. It's right. Only an idiot would disagree.

Why don't you shove your head a little farther up your ass when typing. You still look stupid with no excuse....then, at least, you would have one.

I disagree.

And you are the idiot.

No he's not, because while you get help in life, you also get credit for your success. What was the point of his quote? I mean in an action sense, why make that quote?

The point of the quote was "you have to support the country". Republicans call that "socialism".

No he's not, while people have helped you out, that's like a constant in science experiment, we take it for granted and it's no big deal......while other people have the same advantages and FAIL miserably.......hence you DID build that.....
It's why we celebrate LEADERS.....see like generals....they have armies that do the dirty work, but without a general it falls apart...see the Battle of Hastings as a prime example, although there are many many more.

Funny how Democrats don't support the country when a Republican is in office, innit?

But of course, you think the country and the leftist agenda are the same thing.

They are not.
