A Massachusetts woman's Facebook post about a stranger's act of kindness toward an elderly man has gone viral.

"A little redemption for the suffering human soul," said Paula Picard.

Picard was at Holyoke Mall last week when an older man was stopped at the top of an escalator, clearly feeling unsure and apprehensive.
"A few people started gathering, waiting to get on," Picard said. "This young man offered the simplest kindness."

Picard said the younger man reached out his arm and said "Can I help you on, sir?"
"He quietly started to explain to the young man that he had gotten stuck on an escalator once and was a little scared," Picard said. "The young man gently offered an assurance, they looked at each other eye to eye for just a moment and the older man accepted his arm."

Picard shared a photo of the two men with their arms locked while riding down the escalator. Her Facebook post has more than 350,000 likes and more than 167,000 shares.
"I wanted to hug both of them," Picard said. "Whoever this young man is, your family raised you right!"
Man helps scared elderly stranger ride down escalator

I decided to share this after seeing it earlier today. It's a reminder that we shouldn't be grouping people under the same umbrella.

:)

Gotta say, I'm surprised at you.

Reminded me of an elderly gentleman (black) who got in line behind me. He had a couple of items and I had a basket full. I asked him if he would like to go ahead of me.

The look on his face. That dear old man had seen it all and he actually looked around, almost certainly looking for the gotcha, for the attack because he was talking to a white woman.

Broke my heart.

I lived in NYC in the late 60sn and into the 70s. I lived on east 72nd street and worked in the endearment district off Times Square. One evening, after going out with friends, headed home well after dark. Mistakenly got on the express instead of the local subway and ended up in Harlem. It was one of those stations where you would go up to the street, cross to the other side and then take the stairway down.

When I got to street level, there was a gang of young black guys standing around under the street light. When I came next to them, they all crowded around me, making tough guy noises and for a bit, I thought I was in for trouble.

It took a while for me to see what was really going on but they walked me across the street and down the stairs to the platform. Every single one of them put in a token or money (20 cents in those days!) and waited for the train with me.

They were escorting me out of a potentially dangerous situation.

Over the years and even when I lived there, people told me to be careful after dark, take a cab, etc. Not because of blacks but because there have always been bad people in big cities. I never once felt threatened and I road the subway during the night, would be in Grand Central in the night. I went everywhere and did everything and always made friends.

I believe you get what you give.

Just seems like you're usually nasty, a trumpkin, not someone I would want to know or talk to.

Do I have you confused with someone else?

Nope... I'm the same Trump supporter who doesn't share your political beliefs. :)

More than that, I believe you're a racist OR that you write racist posts.

Do I have you confused with someone else?

Before you answer, its close to impossible to be a trumpkin and not be a raving loony racist too. Or maybe I've been reading this board too long.

Being a Trump supporter does not equal being racist. There are racists on both the right and the left.

You're an idiot, Luddly. It's why you're struggling with understanding the world around you.
Do us all a favor and STFU. You clearly can't appreciate a good story.

Oops... that might be the mean side of me you mentioned earlier.

While I agree that both right and left

Nope. No way I can say they're the same when it comes to race. Some things, yes. But not racism.

However, I do believe there are still Conservative who may not be racist. But, RWNJs are. Period. And they are trump's "base". Without the most vile in this country, he would not be pretending to be prez.

So you don't beleive there are leftist racist?

Note: "same" is your word, not mine.

Luddly is a village idiot we dismiss.
We give him a pat on the head and a participation trophy.
