The Obama-era caravan you remember was one of the largest, but it wasn’t really exceptional. This year, the caravan is smaller, but it still numbers more than 1,100 illegal immigrants. Pause on that for a moment. Every single one of these immigrants illegally crossed into Mexico, and that is their plan for the U.S.

In one way, it was a very generous gesture. In another way, it doesn't compensate border states for their accelerated educational costs of the accompanying children (and many whose parents just want the child over here for a guaranteed happy reunion.) This promotes the child slave trade, as they're saying more than half of the children are raped repeatedly on the long journey with strangers, the discipline for children getting lost, making too much noise, and just being kids can result in their being dumped and left to die, or even killed along the way.

The problem with educational expenses is an iron-clad American rule that we HAVE TO give alien children who are here the same educational opportunities as regular American kids in the same school have. This quadruples the expense to rush 4th-grader immigrants who've never seen the inside of a school learn to do math, reading, and writing on a 6th-grade level in just two years. This puts insurmountable pressure on teachers and school districts in deserted areas along the border that are often quite fundless to start with, and it gets worse. I looked up the school on the border my father was superintendent of for one year, and it changed from about a 60-40 english/american to latin/american ratio, to today's rate of 12% eng and 88% latino (surnames). I wondered what happened to all the ranch kids whose families ranched out in the head-high cactus and chapparal.
