Yet another reason I like Tina Fey

Exhibit A...although I must say I never really saw Avatar in this category....

You are surprised that I like geniune education and intelligence rather than people pretending they are educated simply because they have a degree?

I've been through graduate school. I work with professionals with advanced degrees all the time. Degrees are truly meaningless.

Depends on the school....and the educators. But back to the Op Ed...certain people show disdain for education for no other reason, and intelligent, educated person can make them look stupid....

I am still trying to figure out what that all has to do with being neoconservative.

I think she rocks, not only because she's smart and sassy, but because she offers and quick, concise and correct insight into the mind of the American neocon. She recently completed the Proust Questionnaire in Vanity Fair magazine. Two of her answers summed up neocons. Note, she doesn't mention the rabid rigth, but her answers decribe them (well on this board anyway) to a T....Allie, Willow, Cesspit, Tank, T, Bigreb

What is the trait you most deplore in others?
People who are proud of their ignorance.

What is it that you most dislike?
People who mock education as elitist.

Well, I knew it wasn't for her "acting"....

Really? Perhaps you can tell us all what you think a neocon is. Most of the time the left's definition of a neocon is a moving target not based in any reality.

Here's a clue, though: GW Bush is not a neocon.

I think I've described it fairly well. I pretty much stated the Bush Doctrine.

Exactly.

That's certainly part of it - partly describing neoconservative foreign policy.

I have never seen anyone who is proud of their ignorance, nor have I seen anyone who mocks education. What I have seen is progressives who belittle people because of their lack of education, and their belief in things that are out of favor with the educated class. This leads those who are not educated, but know they are not stupid, to resent those who think that way. They then point out the absolute truth, that education does not mean you are smart, and the educated class reacts with scorn because they know they are smarter than the non educated.

That means that the problem is not people who are proud to be ignorant, it is people who are arrogant about their knowledge. The problem is not people who mock education, it is those with education who hold themselves up as better than people who are uneducated.

The fact that you admire anyone who thinks that she is better than others simply because she is better educated, has more money, or is better connected politically, tells me all I need to know about you and your attitude toward people who, while ignorant, are still passionate and willing to defend their beliefs.

The really weird thing here is that no one here has ever accused me of being unintelligent, yet I have the same general viewpoint as T, Allie, Willow, and BigReb. I have found all of them engaging and quite willing to talk about almost any subject and actually listen to anyone who treats them with respect.

I have no idea who it is you refer to as Cesspit, but even Tank, who is actually proud to be a racist dirt bag, is proud of his ignrance, nor does he dismiss education as elitist. What they have done, and I agree with, is call those who hold their education up as making them special as being elitist.

By the way, I find it especially telling that you do not mention the uneducated on the left who post on this forum. I could provide a list, but the mere fact that you do not mention Shaman in any discussion of ignorance tells me that you are one of those who only sees the other side when it is wrong.

It's not being educated that some on the right mock as being elitist....it's just those on the left who have a view that only those who have gained their enlightenment from some ivy league institute are truly educated, and have little appreciation for those who value self-education and a desire to always be learning.

Exactly. I can point to a recent thread where graduates of a right wing university were mocked by people on the left.

Let's not forget some on the right bashing of teachers and public education, I seldom see it from the left.

I wonder why that is?

Oh, and Tina Fey ROCKS!

Can't wait to read her book, "Bossy Pants!"

There is a difference between bashing teachers and bashing teachers unions. I often see people on the left bashing home schooling and the parents who home school, despite the fact that home schooled children, on the average, preform a full grade level above their age group in public schools.

I seldom see that from the right.

I wonder why that is.

As for Tina, I love her acting and comedy, but that does not mean I think she is qualified to talk about anything beyond acting and comedy. My guess is you feel the same way about Charlton Heston and John Wayne.

No one on the 'left' disparages those without college – people are judged on what they say, however, and appropriately so. If someone on the right, for example, calls Obama a ‘socialist,’ that’s an exhibition if ignorance. Anyone educated – in college or by oneself – should know the tenets of socialism have nothing to do whatsoever with the policies Obama advocates. It’s as ignorant as referring to conservatives as ‘fascists.’

What is being mocked by many on the right is not ‘elitism’ but factual statements made by knowledgeable people that conflict with conservative dogma.

Oh, bullshit.

You wanna bang her and that's all there is to it.

You just explained Palin's appeal to a T.

Tina Fey for president!

LMAO! I actually got negged for this post?

Wow, some people...

Me as well. Elvis must be in a particularly bitchy mood. But hey, this is the only way he has any power so more power to him.:eusa_whistle:

Elvis was not the one who negged me.

You mean Obama and Bush II?

Umm they are not mocked for attending college. But that it must have failed miserabely in their case.

Bull fucking shit. There are people who do disparage people without an education. Your statement that no one does it tells me you are either lying, or ignorant. Maybe both.

Tell you what, give me a list of factual statements that disagree with my dogma, if you can figure out what my dogma is.

No, I was talking about the graduates of a particular university, I do agree that the last two presidents seem to have slept through their college years.

Well, if she was an ugly old fat woman, I doubt people on here would be talking about her, good or bad, eh?

Nobody would even know who she was!

I thought I was alone in this opinion.
Although, maybe if she were an ugly, old, fat woman with a good right cross who decked at least one reporter at every public appearance she might become president. She could beat the crap out of her running mate when he said stupid shit.
"Vote for Me--or You'll Get Some Too!"
Yep, that's my President!

WHO on the left have done this?

List them please.

Thanks.
