Japanese envoy apologizes for World War II, thanks PHL for ?moving on? | News | GMA News Online

"Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Toshinao Urabe used the commemoration of the Araw ng Kagitingan on Wednesday to apologize for Japan's role during World War II, saying it has learned its lesson from those days.

"Seventy-two years have passed. Still, it hurts to remember the hardship and pain suffered by so many during those fateful days. I wish to express our heartfelt apologies and deep sense of remorse for such inexplicable suffering," Urabe said during his speech at a program in Bataan."

Another apology to add to the long list that will be ignored the next time someone declares, "Japan has never apologized!" as someone inevitably does from time to time.

No matter how many apologies are issued, it is only a matter of time before someone chimes in AGAIN with the falsehood that there was never any contrition shown on the part of Japan for WWII. Only a matter of time.

It took a very long time for Japan to even issue one half-hearted apology...and only after being dragged "kicking and screaming" to the apology table.
So the doubters might take a very long time to be convinced that the apologies issued in recent times are genuine.

However, this latest apology is spoken very clearly;

Took a large dent to the pride shield for Japan to say that.

No, it didn't.

Aussie nurses machine gunned in the back...by the Japanese..."the Bangka Island Massacre";

The Bangka Island Massacre, February 1942

Having separated the men from the women prisoners, the Japanese divided the men into two groups, and marched them along the beach and behind a headland.
The nurses heard a quick succession of shots before the Japanese soldiers came back, sat down in front of the women and cleaned their bayonets and rifles.

A Japanese officer, smaller and more "nattily" dressed than his men, instructed the nurses to walk from the palm-fringed Radjik Beach into the sea until they were waist deep in the waves. A couple of soldiers shoved those who were slow to respond.
Twenty-two nurses and one civilian woman walked into the waves, leaving ten or twelve stretcher cases on the beach.
Fully aware of their fate, the nurses put on a brave face. Their matron, Irene Drummond, called out: "Chin up, girls. I'm proud of you and I love you all." At that point the Japanese fired. Vivian Bullwinkel later described what happened next: » started firing up and down the line with a machine gun. ... They just swept up and down the line and the girls fell one after the other.

Then there were all the other atrocities including death marches and draining the bodies of Aussie POWs of blood, and starving to death of POWs.
Also Japan's bombing of Australia in 63 raids over 18 months.

Lest We Forget.

ANZAC Day soon, April 25.

The pipes and drums of patriotism and 'war' will lead the Lest We Forget and "Attack us/attack us again" and watch out" parades nationwide. [all we need now are some nukes].

The 300 flags are symbolic and send a message to many, but they need accompanying by 300 nuke missiles...on trucks like Red China does.

We move on...in peace [hopefully forever];

Abbott breaks new ground in Japan | News.com.au

TONY Abbott will walk away from his first trip to Japan with a free trade agreement and a closer strategic partner in the region.
He and counterpart Shinzo Abe have confirmed an historic free trade deal between Australia and its second-largest trading partner after seven years of negotiations.

The prime minister is calling the achievement a milestone in the 60-year bilateral relationship that will foster even stronger future ties.

"I hope that thanks to this agreement that has been finalised today that Australia can be pivotal to ensuring that in the years and decades to come the people of Japan have energy security, resource security and food security," Mr Abbott told a bilateral meeting with Mr Abe on Monday evening.

It's not clear how these blatantly strategic outcomes will wash in Beijing or Seoul, given Mr Abbott arrived in Japan with a trade agenda.

But there was no question he was among friends in Tokyo, having been extended a rare private dinner invite with Mr Abe and an audience with the Japanese ruling monarch, Emperor Akihito.

Yeah, take the CCP as your model. Great idea... :rolleyes:

I hope one day you and hopefully China as well would learn that we should be informed by history but not driven by it.

Here ya go... a show of force...

Yes, that's what Australia should get.
Marching about playing pipes and drums, and waving flags, won't do any good when the enemy is landing on your shores in massive numbers.
You need nukes to fire at their homeland, and at least be able to make a mess of much of it.
Pity Australia didn't having anything to fire at Japan when it was bombing Australia for 18 months.

How does that saying go? ...ah yes..."Walk softly and carry a big stick"
...and my motto..."Never trust anyone".

Informed by history?
Yes.

Leave yourself defenceless, one day you're likely gonna get whacked by someone.
Best to have a nuke arsenal, like USA, Britain, India, Pakistan [who on earth allowed India and Pakistan to have nukes?] Russia, China, NK etc.
