YES, I'M A BAD AMERICAN
by George Carlin

I Am Your Worst Nightmare. I am a BAD American. I am George Carlin.

I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some mid level
governmental functionary be it Democratic or Republican!

I think owning a gun doesn't make you a killer, it makes you a smart American.

I think being a minority does not make you noble or victimized, and does not
entitle you to anything.

I believe that if you are selling me a Big Mac, try to do it in English.

I think fireworks should be legal on the 4th of July.

I think that being a student doesn't give you any more enlightenment than
working at Blockbuster. In fact, if your parents are footing the bill to put
your pansy ass through 4 years plus of college, you haven't begun to be
enlightened.

I believe everyone has a right to pray to his or her God when and where they
want to.

My heroes are John Wayne, Babe Ruth, Roy Rogers, and whoever canceled
Jerry Springer.

I don't hate the rich. I don't pity the poor.

I know wrestling is fake and I don't waste my time arguing about it.

I've never owned a slave, or was a slave, I didn't wander forty years In the
desert after getting chased out of Egypt. I haven't burned any witches or
been persecuted by the Turks and neither have you! So, shut-the-Hell-up
already.

I want to know which church is it exactly where the Reverend Jesse Jackson
practices, where he gets his money, and why he is always part of the
problem and not the solution. Can I get an AMEN on that one?

I think the cops have every right to shoot your sorry ass if you're running
from them.

I also think they have the right to pull your ass over if you're breaking the
law, regardless of what color you are.

I think if you are too stupid to know how a ballot works, I don't want you
deciding who should be running the most powerful nation in the world for the
next four years.

I believe that it doesn't take a village to raise a child, it takes two parents.

If this makes me a BAD American, then yes, I'm a BAD American.

We need our country back!

Yeah, that's a pretty cool one. I've also seen it credited to Robin Williams, but I don't think either of them actually said it. Doesn't make it any less cool.

Carlin and Williams are fairly ardent lefties from what I have seen and heard them say...I would be surprised if it was written or spoken by either of them. Amusing, nevertheless.

Here is the letter from the actual author of Bad American on FreeRepublic.com.

Here is where I found the link: (I love snopes.com)

http://www.snopes.com/language/document/carlin.htm

Here is the original post on freerepublic.

There have been additions and subtractions as it has circulated around the web.

Snopes.com rocks. I've ended a few arguments with their help.

Iagree with everything up till this part.

What makes a cop any more powerful then a citizen. Too often you read of cops killing a guy for carrying a gun with no intent on using it. Too often you have illegal search and seizures by cops that have no justification to do so or ramifications for doing so. Too often you hear of cops committing crimes that citizens supposedly commit everyday and goto jail for, being slaps on the wrist for them.

These higher authorities need to know their place. They PROTECT & SERVE the PEOPLE. Yet too many have forgotten that and deem everyone a criminal in their eyes.

True, that part isn't worded very well, but I agree with the sentiment I think is behind it. We keep passing laws that end up being a benefit for the criminal, then complain when the crime rate goes up and the police act like jerks.

As far as the part about race, I think it's about the fact that it's become to easy to play the race card. Nobody should have the police on them just because of their color, but there are people who do bad things then claim they are being treated unfairly because of their race.

I've got no real love for cops. I respect them, and admit they have a tough, shitty job to do, but I think a lot of them let it go to their heads. They start thinking they're "above the law", and can treat you however they deem fit. Problem is, a lot of the time, you're treatment isn't warranted. There's too many cops that are arrogant, condesending, pieces of shit.

Personally, I don't care who wrote the article. I agree with the sentiments, expecially those about the cops, and AMEN, AMEN, AMEN to the statement about the Rev. Jesse Jackson. What would our society be like if we didn't have good, dedicated police on the beat every day risking their lives to make our lives safer and more comfortable? One bad apple (cop) does not spoil the whole barrel, in my opinion. The bad cops are always found out and get their just rewards.

Not often enough, apple. I just recently read of a man who was shot dead at a school. He was carrying an air pistol not in his hand but holstered. Granted what was he doing around a school with an air pistol. Apparently he was a student's 51 year old father that they claimed was being "indignant" so they shot him dead with a 12 gauge shotgun twice. Will any of these officers be tried of any crimes? Will they even be reprimanded? no most likely they wont.

Too often you hear of small town cops with nothing better to do creating scenrios that they think are dangerous and turning them into something worse then they actually were. Random pull overs with an offhand comment about the "smell of marijuana". Demands to open one's trunk illgeally and passing it off as just cause. They have too much power with too little oversight. Something needs to change.

You have a point there. Oversight at the administrative level does need to improve drastically. It seems to me that people at the oversight level too often do not do their jobs, thus creating uncalled-for problems. Guess it's more fun to go to the golf course and shoot a couple of rounds than to make hard, unpopular decisions.
