WW2 Battleship Missouri Sailor tells Obama to Shape Up or

While I honor his service, let's be honest here....the America he fought for and defended would have had a cow over that black female chief standing next to him.

People like him fought and died so that that black female chief could stand next to him. Why are liberals so obessed with grabbing some fantasy moral highground? That highground was paid for by the blood of countless Americans - it is not yours.

Yes they did...but unintentionally. The Navy of the 40s was segregated and it wanted it that way. And, of course, women were not allowed to serve on ships until the late 70s.

As I said, I honor his service....but let's be real here...the guy is writing about how his country has changed, and not for the better, in his opinion. I'm just pointing out what his country was like in the 40s.

You do get the concept that ALL of the above denominations are, in fact, Christian, right? Labels are only important to idiots who seek to divide... doesn't work. Christians are Christians, whatever label they wear. You may not like the fact that we are founded on Christianity, but thems the breaks. "In God We Trust".... Faith based nation.

I think that if you check, those above denominations have spent a great deal of their history stating that the others are NOT Christian. Do you know what the Puritans used to do besides hang witches? Hang Quakers. And of course, we know what some people feel about the Mormons. And the Catholics being Papists, etc.

So...if we are a Christian nation....which Christian sect are we?

No sect, just faith.

And there's the rub....there are many different versions of that faith....which one are we?

Still floating over your head, huh? Christianity has many branches.... just one tree. We are not created from a branch, but from the trunk. Our nation is a nation where all people - no matter what faith, or of no faith - are equal. The separation of church and state is not freedom from religion - it is freedom of religion.

And this man, the one in the OP, has earned his right to be heard far more than the likes of you and I. His nation was not a perfect one but it was an ideal worth fighting for, worth dying for according to some. That is what he refers to, not the impefections, but the ideals that we once stood for.

I haven't seen anyone here say this vet doesn't have the right to be heard. Did I miss a post saying so?

Miller described firing the machine gun during the battle, a weapon which he had not been trained to operate: "It wasn't hard. I just pulled the trigger and she worked fine. I had watched the others with these guns. I guess I fired her for about fifteen minutes. I think I got one of those Jap planes. They were diving pretty close to us."

During the attack, Japanese aircraft dropped two armored piercing bombs through the deck of the battleship and launched five 18-inch aircraft torpedoes into her port side. Heavily damaged by the ensuing explosions, and suffering from severe flooding below decks, the crew abandoned ship while West Virginia slowly settled to the harbor bottom. Of the 1,541 men on West Virginia during the attack, 130 were killed and 52 wounded. Subsequently refloated, repaired, and modernized, the battleship served in the Pacific theater through to the end of the war in August 1945.
Doris "Dorie" Miller, African American Sailor

I have had the chance to read the letter from the sailor who was on the Missouri and many responses to it. one in particular that people like him represented a different America. The reason I put Dorrie Milliers story up there is to show that the men that sacrifice like those on WW2 knew no color and that sacrifice s on who's shouders we all stand on today. so YES the America they fought for is the same America we enjoy today. The sailor that wrote the letter is MORE than qualified to express such an opinion because the nation we all enjoy today is a direct result of the sarifice that men like him and Dorrie Millier and millions of others made during WW2 and the President would do well to listen.

I knew he died later in the war but i didn't know he was assigned to the Indy.

Oil is far from an addiction, there is nothing that can take it's place except maybe natural gas and we aren't allowed to drill for that either. Just because that simpleton that spends most of his time in Air Force One burning 2,500 gallons of jet fuel per hour says it, doesn't make it so. What a hypocrite he is. He burns more fuel in an hour than most of us will consume in a decade. Oil is a necessity dimbert, grow up.

This has nothing to do with Obama. This has to do with plundering the earth for a nonrenewable energy source that is not going to last forever. Oil is an addiction. Right now we get our fix from Saudi Arabia and other countries. Eventually, we will likely get our fix from places in the U.S.

However, we should work more so towards the long term goal of a renewable energy source.

It reminds me of the Native American Proverb (Props to Avg Joe for having this in his sig. I don't know the tribe.)

"We do not inherit the world from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children. Duty on us to return it to them in the absolute situation"

I wonder if this dolt is plundering any cattle for lunch.

Just because you're racist doesn't mean an entire generation was. Speak for yourself.

a lot more. except of couse us

Other countries ink deals for oil drilling off the Florida Keys Bahamas also aggressive on drilling, meaning rigs could spring up off the Keys

Companies from nations like Norway, Spain, India, China, Russia and Brazil have signed exploration agreements with Cuba and the Bahamas that could mean drilling south of Key West this year, and 120 miles east of the Keys in the Cay Sal area of the Bahamas in fewer than two years.

so Osama what about us ?????

She's not racist, she was making an observant and accurate observation.

Blacks and Whites could not marry each other until 1967. Blacks and Whites could not eat at the same places, drink from the same fountains together, etc during World War II. In fact, they couldn't even fight together legally until Korea.

It wasn't even until Vietnam when they truly fought together.

Dogshit, we were conceived as a Christian nation.
And we remain one despite the pathetic attempts of fringe lefterals to change history, and deny the present.

How about the Treaty of Trapoli? Or George Washington's letter to the Hebrew Congregation of Newport, Rhode Island in 1790? Or the words of the various Founding Fathers?

Yes, America over the years has added aspected of Christianity into itself but it wasn't the Founding Fathers. "Under God" in the Pledge and "In God We Trust" on our money did NOT come from the Founders.

Show me in the Constitution where the word God is. And take note, the Declaration of Independence does not represent any laws here in the United States. But speaking of the Declaration, and I quote ""Governments are instituted among men."

I guess you've never read the preamble. How about the constitutions of the fifty states. Every single one mentions God.
